This is the best (and maybe the only) dual humidification/dehumidification system on the market. Yes, the initial $ outlay is higher than most, but once purchased, the product is easily maintained and rechargeable. I live in the high desert of Central Oregon where the humidity is definitely on the low side. The room where the guitar is stored averages 30% - 45% RH according to my digital hygrometer. So humidification is called for nearly all of the time. Consequently the humidipaks last 4 - 6 weeks before drying out. While set one is in the guitar case, set 2 is recharging in a double tupperware setup with a sponge immersed in distilled water. The paks are in the smaller inner tupperware, the water and sponge in the larger outer tupperware. Keep a lid on the outer one. Simple, effective, and cheap over the long run. The beauty of this product is its ability to absorb or emit moisture depending on ambient conditions. If you live east of the Rockies you need a product that will absorb moisture much of the time. Throwing a plain jane humidifier in your case won't help with overhumidification due to high ambient moisture. I have played around with cigars for years, and use a similar product designed for humidors that is dual action as well. It is the only way to fly. Takes all the worry out of properly caring for your musical investment. I keep a set in my Yamaha acoustic electric and my Telecaster case as well. Both instruments stay in tune, no cracking in the wood bodies, and the necks remain straight. In this country it is so dry that without humidification the necks can even shrink so badly that the frets become wider than the neck. Doesn't happen to my guitars!

I'm writing this on July 17th, 2014, just for a timeframe.

These are great and work really well! I have read through almost all of the review on Amazon, and the negative reviews really worried me. I decided I really needed a humidity control system, so I decided to give the product a chance. Since there are already many positive reviews about the product, I am mainly going to try and address all the negative reviews.

First, let's talk about receiving the "right" product. Many people claimed to receive an older stock of this product. I was worried about that, so I will let you know of the newer stock. NONE OF THE PICTURES ON AMAZON IS THE NEW STOCK, but if you order from Amazon, you WILL (hopefully. I did.) receive the new stock. There have been many versions of this because of past gimmicks, but they have seriously improved and fixed those mistakes well over the years. I contacted D'Addario and they have confirmed that the MOST RECENT AND NEW packages are the ones that come in the signature D'Addario black and red packaging. It should read "D'Addario Two-Way Humidification System" and NOT Humidipak. Humidipak is the old name.
Here's also some tips from D'Addario when I contacted them.

"The tab pouch is also dated .
The leakage issues for the most part stemmed from batches made back in 2009.
The new packs are brown and the older ones were white.
They were white up until about 6 months ago."

The tab pouch is referring to the little tab handles on the black pouches that you can see in the pictures. The new ones no longer have that and actually looks like they went backwards in design, but there probably was a reason that they decided to take it out.

And, ah, the leakage issue. I personally haven't had any trouble with it. There have been many complaints about that, and I was worried because living in the Northwest, the humidity packs sometimes suck more moisture. I thought that the bag might be more bloated due to more moisture and be prone to leaking more, but none of that happened. The new stock products no longer seem to have any leakage issues. As a precaution, do make sure there aren't any holes, cutes, and scratches on the humidity packs, though.

Overall, this product is fantastic. If you're on the fence about this because of past reviews, just go for it!

-edit-

Looks like Amazon updated the product picture after my review was posted after some lengthy approval period. That is the correct product picture, but the pictures with the black tabbed pouches are still outdated! Don't panic if you receive pouches without tabs.
