I used this for the first snow fall we had in Ohio recently. The temperature was below freezing so the patio and sidewalks were icy. I sprinkled this out and it was melted into the ice very quickly and broke up the ice making it easy to walk without slipping. The opening is an easy top you can spin to have larger amounts of salt pellets come out or smaller amounts. I also have 2 dogs and this dissolved so quickly they didn’t get any of it in their paws.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've been using going on 4 years

I'm a rescue pack mom, in the Pacific Northwest, and we get snow every year.

Though my front, porch, walkway, and driveway are Aggregate, the sidewalk is concrete, the back deck, and stairs are wood, and I use it in all of these locations, so far after 4 years of using, sometimes for a week at a time, there has never been any damage to the surface, nor any of the dog pack paws, and with potty trips into the back, they cross the surface many times in a day.

I had come across Safe Paw, when I was running low on my usual brand, but when I went to order it was listed as out of stock, and no time frame when it would be re-stocked.

As a rescue pack mom, paw safe is a must, plus I want it to work, which when I started using I was a bit skeptical, because part of the front walkway is in the shade, snow often doesn't melt there if left alone for even as late as a week after everyone else's snow has long melted!

This year it beyond impressed me, as we had a few heavy storms, that also included wind, so the covered front porch had a bunch of snow, that it doesn't usually get, since it is covered. So I thought I had nothing to lose, either that or I'm shoveling, lol It worked like a charm, no damage to the porch, not even to the mats that were under the snow.

Not even any damage to the plants or lawn from melting.

Plus, this is a product even the long-time family Vet approved of.

Now, it can be a bit of a pain in the booty to scatter, and if your shoes have the winter traction on the bottoms or even a chunky bottom, un-melted pellets will get caught in the groves, but with a teen that plays football, I'm used to the ones from the turf or if one of the pooch pack members tracking something, so it's not a big deal for me, I just sweep or dust vac.

Now, I have a pack of several different ages, sizes, as well as coats, now sometimes, un-melted pellets can stick to one of the GSD's, the Border Collie, or the Long-haired mini Doxi's paws, but it comes off or just falls off easily, quickly, and so far I haven't had any issues with their paws.

I go through about 5-7 jugs a year, and keep about 3 1/2 to 4 on hand, I've even given some to neighbors.

For us, it's been great, I hope they continue to carry

I bought 10 more on amazon prime day in advance. We live in Indiana and the weather is unpredictable. We get ice and snow. We have fur babies and i tried this last Winter as regular salt hurts their precious feet. We would put this down before a big snow and it saved us from plowing. We did do a before and during and after. I will say it was worth it and no shoveling for me. Bonus!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great dog-safe ice melter
Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2023
I first bought this product because my dog had to be taken to the vet two winters in a row, when he would accidentally get regular sidewalk salt in his mouth somehow and could not stop drooling for over 24 hours.
This brand is my absolute favorite pet-safe ice melter. It is the only one I use, because it is definitely the most consistent one I have tried (a lot of the other ones did not work at all). I love that it is blue, so you can tell where it has been spread. And the design of the container also makes spreading the product easy.

One small issue with the melter, if the temperatures are near zero degrees Fahrenheit or below, it does not work as well as regular sidewalk salt. So you have to have a back up plan on those days. (I choose to use those rubber mats with drainage holes, that restaurants use, because of my dogs sensitivity to regular sidewalk salt.) Also, I wish they would keep the price more reasonable. But other than that, it has been super safe for my dog, saved me money on vet's bills, and been effective on most snowy/icy days.

Easy to handle, spreads uniformly, very convenient and it works. Really happy that pets and my driveway and walkways are protected from damage while we all remain safe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked
Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2020
Worked well and managed to get it in time for our first snow in the Midwest. A few things:

1. Read. The. Instructions. Don’t use too much. Also understand, ice and snow are very harsh on concrete, particularly newer concrete. Between the weather and overuse of ice melt products, concrete takes a beating. Get some perspective and settle down. Your concrete having some pitting is...normal! Instead of stressing over spending ridiculously high amounts for "fixing" the concrete, unless there are structural issues with the concrete (and understand concrete doesn't last forever, especially in northern states), take that money and go to a food bank. Or donate to an animal shelter. Or to cancer research. I wish the burning issue in my life was...pitted concrete. ????

2. No de-icer works in severely cold weather. That's why road crews have special slurries they use for the worst weather.

3. The key for most snows and all ice events is to put this down BEFORE the snow and ice rolls in. Doing so will help you get the ice and snow up. Unlike in Frosty 2, there is no magic product that completely gets rid of snow and ice. If it's sunny and warm, yes this will help, but it's not a magic cure. The idea is to prevent severe icing. But be aware, this isn't going to be a lot of help in a severe weather event. You're going to have to do some work.

4. This product is better for the environment and animals than traditional salt. That to me is more important than being lazy. We only have one planet and my yard holds a lot of value to me. I've also seen paw pads with severe burns from rock salt and I would never want my animal or someone else's to get hurt. Perspective, people. That said, you should still wipe down their little paws after coming inside. I don't think this should be ingested and any pellet is uncomfortable on the feet.
