When I first ordered this it was for a fun little gag gift. However, it turns out that it actually is a unique and helpful gadget. I placed one on my toilet to see how it worked and when I had to get up in the middle of the night to do my business, it was actually refreshing to see the toilet bowl all lit up the minute I walked into the bathroom. For an elderly person, it really helped to clearly see where I needed to go as I don't turn lights on. The motion sensor works great and the colors are vivid yet soft and it turns off pretty quickly after leaving the bathroom. It really beats the heck out of keeping a night light on all night. I'd say it is a great gadget for the elderly and really for anyone who has to get up in the middle of the night to go. In fact, I can see using this in other places of your home where you need a little extra light when you have to get up, but not have a light on for the entire night. The 4 stars is because I don't know how long it will last.

This is a great item for every household regardless of age. It works as a nightlight and a target illuminator.
I have been able to turn off the hall light as this gives enough light to see the way to the bathroom without tripping on a dog toy. I have purchased many of these for my house and for gifts. It works good for older people, providing a bit of guidance in the dark. I've even taken (and left them) on vacations. A family member has an RV, it was a perfect addition. There are so many color choices. It can be set to just one color or change through many. I would like to give a heads up though ... Be aware the red color in the toilet can alarm guests.

This was an easy set up, and as long as you remember to position it so the beam faces the door, it works perfectly. The reason I'm giving it a four instead of a 5 is that the colors cycle through, even after I chose the blue and held the button down as instructed. My "choice" only lasts for two days and it reverts back to the color spectrum.
