5.0 out of 5 stars Love this mower

I purchased this unit to replace a gas powered one that served our needs for quite a few years. While the old machine did a great job with the grass and the leaves, the exhaust and gasoline smell was an ongoing issue that I never really liked. Not to mention the yearly oil changes and gas treatments required before the winter comes. After several months of research I narrowed down to the EGO mower after reading multiple reviews by other happy owners. And I was not disappointed. The mower arrived in a well packed big box, completely assembled, only requiring to straighten up the handle once out of the box. The unit is very light to move around, even with the respectable looking 7.5 Ah battery installed that came with it. Actually one person can easily move it with one hand when in use. The controls are relatively straightforward, once you spend a few minutes with the owner's manual to make sure how to operate it. It is self propelled and the forward speed can be adjusted as needed, or just push the mower without any help, being so light. Probably the battery life can be extended a bit if the forward motion is not used. I used this unit every day for the last week and it’s a pleasure to do yard work now. It is very quiet while in operation, allowing the owner to either listen to his/her favorite music or a good book. Very easy to adjust the cutting height using one lever and it cuts the grass or takes care of the leaves quickly and thoroughly. I initially tried the mulching insert with great results, but, eventually, I switched to the collecting bag because of the great amount of leaves I have on my lawn. The 7.5 Ah battery that came with the mower lasts probably close to an hour, although it is difficult to determine because of the numerous times one has to stop and empty the bag, especially when that person has a lot of trees around. Overall it is a great machine, easy to operate and cuts the grass as needed. Definitely worth having and a great replacement for a gasoline mower.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best residential lawn mower I've ever used.

My lawn was 3 weeks overdue getting mowed for the first time this year when I found out my old gas mower was once again going to be a pain to start. Ordered one of these and it's just amazing. It bagged up 12-in tall grass without breaking a sweat. I've definitely never had a lawn mower than bags at like this one. Fills the bag up completely. No clogging, absolutely amazing. When it hits the really long stuff instead of bogging down like a gas mower it actually speeds up. I got the deal where you get a 7.5 battery plus a free 5.0 battery and I had a quarter of an acre of ultra long grass, over uneven ground, and lots of obstacles to deal with. I started with the 5.0 figuring if I use that up first, then it can sit on the charger and be ready by the time I use up the 7.5. Well, the 7.5 still had two green lights left when I finished. Never went back to the 5.0 even though it took 2.5+ hours to bag up the whole yard (not all run time). I'm impressed. Otherwise it's quiet. It pulls itself along easily. The speed controls are pretty cool. You can set it to go really slow or faster than I would care to walk. And for me the best part, flip a couple of clips, fold it in half and store it vertically in the corner. No more filling up the garage. Love it. It's nice and light because it is a plastic body. Way lighter than my old 7.5 horsepower gas powered steel unit. But it took all the bangs and hits and came out looking good. Looking forward to switching back to the mulch blade later this week to get the grass down shorter.

Very Nice Things:
(1) Twin blade “select cut” is quite effective at giving a neat cut. I’m guessing the arrangement provides a bit more lift to provide an even cut, even with the standard mulching blade.
(2) Mulching seems better than my previous EGO, even traversing in a few longer areas of grass I have caused no clumping as the machine powered through and chopped the blades nicely. Probably that second blade effectiveness again.
(3) Runtime seemed a bit longer, but that may just be my wishful thinking.
(4) Headlights are a bit brighter.
(5) I like the sleek and sporty design, including the way the headlights are integrated. I definitely be styling when cutting my grass, and enjoy the envious looks of my neighbors!

Continued good stuff (reason I bought the EGO again):
(1) Quiet for me and neighborhood.
(2) No hassles with gas, oil, spark plugs, air filter & such.
(3) Light & maneuverable.
(4) Interchangeability of the batteries with the five other EGO tools I enjoy.

But … (don’t you hate that word?): the one negative for me so far is the solution for engaging the self- propelling feature. The two embedded switches in the handle are not as holistic a user interface as the previous model. First time I used the new mower I wanted to move it over two feet after putting battery in; when putting my hand on the handle to give it a slight shove I unintentionally engaged the embedded switch and the mower started zipping away. Same thing when cutting; I typically use the drive when going up the slight rise in my front yard but not at other times and I find it counterintuitive to position my hands on the handle such that it doesn’t engage (particularly when maneuvering the mower when your hands tend to move around a bit). Vice-a-versa, once engaged if your hands move slightly it disengages too easily. I guess I could dial the speed back to zero after disengaging, but repeatedly dialing that off and on (and finding right speed when on) would be a PIA. I liked the previous scheme of the lever you would pull back to lie against the handle much better - was a more conscious and positive step to engage the drive, and easier to keep engaged as your hand moves about a bit on the handle. Safer too, IMHO. Maybe I’ll get used it it over time and find a new Zen, but (there is that dang word again) I doubt it.

Overall a fine mower I definitely would buy again. I just hope EGO goes back to the previous drive engagement scheme sometime in the next ten years before I buy my next EGO mower!
