They're not very bright, but they do give a nice, subtle wash of down light in strategic locations. These are my husband's favorite. I will be buying more to complete my fence lights.
As for step lights, my steps are brick and these don't work for my purpose. However, I did mount several on the outer edges of my front porch and the effect is lovely. One placed to the side of my side steps gives enough light to safely make it down the steps on that side at night.
I also have two placed on my arbor lighting the sign to my cottage.
