5.0 out of 5 stars Two traps, two mice gone!
Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2014
These traps are awesome! My cat is amazing at catching mice. The problem is she just wants to play with them, fling them around, chase them over to where I am, carry them around in her mouth, basically everything but kill them. I absolutely hate even the sight of mice, so if she catches one, I am not excited. I live in the country, so there are mice everywhere. I decided to try this trap because I could put it out around my cat and not worry about her getting snapped. If you do have a cat, it is still possible for them to get snapped if they stick their paw in the tunnel. I would just watch them for a while after putting the trap out to make sure they aren't too curious about it.

I had two mice terrorizing me for almost three weeks. I set snap traps in a back room where I know they were hiding out, but they were not interested in the peanut butter on the snap traps at all. I put this trap out and caught a mouse within a couple of days! I saw reviews where you could discard the mouse and reset the trap, but I didn't want to deal with the dead mouse so I just threw the whole thing away. I will gladly pay $4 for a dead mouse that I don't have to see or touch. I set the other trap that came in this pack in the exact same spot and caught the other mouse two days later. So two traps and two dead mice within a week. Yeah! I just came on to buy two more. If you have a mouse that you have tried different traps with, try this one. It is effective, easy to set, ok to have around pets and you don't have to see the mouse once you catch it.

Update: In just another two days, I caught another two mice. That's four mice down! I thought I only had two mice, so I'm kind of horrified, but I'm glad the traps are working so well. Also, a little bit of a Reese's peanut butter cup has been the most effective bait.

Update 2: I've now caught 6 mice with these traps in 6 days! After I started using peanut butter cups instead of peanut butter, I caught one about every 6 hours. I haven't caught one in over 24 hours now, so I'm praying that my mouse problem has been eradicated! My cat actually slept last night instead of lurking all night so she must not have heard any mouse activity. I wish these traps weren't so expensive, but they most definitely work. Also, I've seen some reviews saying these traps don't kill the mice. All of the mice I have caught were instantly killed. I checked the trap within minutes of hearing the trap deploy and there was no movement.

Update 3: I have now caught 8 mice with these traps over the last 4 months. The mouse situation is out of hand this year! Every single trap has worked perfectly. One thing I have to note, though. There is another identical looking product by Ortho. The mouse traps literally look identical except for the fact that Ortho has a red handle and Tomcat has a black handle. DO NOT BUY THE ORTHO BRAND!! I saw them on clearance at Walmart and figured I would just buy them since they were cheaper. I set the trap and all the bait was just eaten out of it. I have never had that problem with the Tomcat trap. I had one Tomcat trap left and put it in the same place I had the Ortho trap set and caught the mouse in less than an hour. It was the same mouse that had been able to go in to the Ortho trap and stand in there eating all the bait out of the door without springing the trap.

1.0 out of 5 stars Redesigned, now LESS effective
Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2024
The new redesign does NOT work. I saw a mouse on my security footage and had an old tomcat trap I bought at home Depot years ago, so I set that up but bought more from Amazon in case there were more mice. I noticed the new traps which came from Amazon were slightly different and had a label that it was now more effective. I caught a mouse within hours of setting the old style trap up. I then set up one of the new "more effective" traps, but didn't catch anything. I thought maybe I only had the one mouse, but then a few days later saw another mouse on my security footage. I then started checking the reviews on Amazon and saw a lot of people saying the traps don't work, so I swapped the new style trap out for another old one I had and caught another mouse in a matter of hours.

This new style is terrible. I don't think the trigger is sensitive enough, so mice just go in and out without setting it off. Total waste of money, and now I'm annoyed since I used my last of the old style traps and am unable to find more since tomcat now only sells the new redesign.

Don't waste your money unless tomcat goes back to the prior design.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE TOMCAT WORKS!!!
Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2018
I have lived in my home for 20 years & never seen a mouse in it. I had found dead remains in my yard where my dogs had stopped them before they could make it inside. Well, this year a mamma mouse had 2 babies in a crate on my front porch before my dogs noticed her. Sadly, the 2 babies thought they belonged here. One moved inside while the other liked living on my porch. Of course, I didn't care for the additional mouths to feed & I started my research on the best way to eliminate my problem. A friend had had limited success using the Tomcat trap so I started my research there. I also checked out vids on youtube so I could see for myself the most effective way to use them. The thought of using a regular old timey mouse trap bothered me cuz I would have to look at the dead mouse in the trap. Yes, I understand thsat is the purpose of the trap & I did want my mice dead...I just didn't want to look at their dead little bodies. After watching several yt vids on the Tomcat, I decided that is where I'd start. IF they didn't work as well as expected, I could always start over in my research.

My indoor buddy hid in my bathroom closet & would run down the wall to the tub then turn to run down the side of the tub. I loaded & used my first Tomcat in the corner where it usually made its first turn. To my horror the next morning, that little vermin ran down the wall to the Tomcat, jumped on top of it & turned to run down the side of the tub. I was at a loss as to why it didn't go after the food inside. Guess it felt insulted by my failed attempt & it quickly moved into my bedroom. I had an unopened bag of chocolate candy on my night stand & it helped itself to some of it. That was my ah-ha moment. So,I get the Tomcat from the bathroom & dump the bait I had used. I refilled the bait area with the chocolate pieces it had attempted to steal & sat the Tomcat on my night stand. Nothing happened during the night; but while I was out to lunch later in the day, I come home with the trap tripped. Peek inside & all I see is a tiny little mouse tail hanging down..

A day or so later I return home to find the outside mouse sitting in my dog's food bowl. Since the Tomcat comes with 2 to a box, I took out the second one & loaded it with pieces of chocolate & set it to ready, placing it near my dog's bowl.Next morning that trap had also been tripped. Once again I peek in & see nothing but a tiny little tail hanging in sight. Both were tossed into my garbage can as it was trash day. Now I have NO more mice invading my space. I can now say that the Tomcat works as long as you find bait that your mouse is tempted to go after. Peanut butter didn't work for me but freshly broken chocolate did attract them within 12-18 hours. This trap works wonderfully once you find out what will tempt your unwanted guest. As a plus for us squeamish females, I never had to look at the dead critter...just its limp little tail. With the handle on top, I didn't have to worry about touching the nasty little critter either!!!

I have been so pleased with the outcome that I've ordered another box of 2 traps just in case my 2 critters had some friends I haven't seen yet!!! At the current price for 2 traps, it only costs me $3.50-4.00 per mouse & I find it worth the price & just toss the trap in place of trying to empty & reuse. For me the real reason for using the Tomcat was that I never had to see the limp little body & I achieved that!!! I hope I never have to use the traps I just ordered; however, I'm ready if I'm wrong!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to set and reuse

It's easy to bait and set. They are reusable. As long as you're not squeamish about seeing dead mice ( often looking like it was a horrible but quick death), these are perfect .
