I read the reviews. I was apprehensive to buy it with all the negative comments. But, I decided since I had had no problems with CD Creator 3 and 4, I would purchase the software anyway. I have made dozens of CD's and copies of them using my own pc and ECDC 5 Platinum is by far the best way to go. Truthfully, I had some problems at first on my old Pentium 2 with Windows 98. I even tried Nero, but that program is a loser in my book. I now have a Pentium 4 with Windows XP and since I got the latest download for XP from the Roxio website, my ECDC 5 is working smooth as silk. I highly recommend it, just make sure you check their website for patches and help if you have problems.

When I bought Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum a couple of years ago, it was an excellent program: numerous useful features, all of which worked extremely well. The next upgrade made some useful corrections on minor problems AND THEN CAME the upgrade which removed Take Two AND WORSE. the further upgrade which allegedly adapted Easy CDC to Windows 2000 and XP. (I still use Windows 98/2, as it does what I need, and many of my older programs give increasing diffculties with each new Version of Windows!-not to mention the Security Issues.)
Since then I have had nothing but trouble from it.I have reluctantly been forced to agree with the numerous customers who have expressed on the Amazon Site their disgust with the steady deterioration of the Program- on all Windows platforms - since its acquisition by Roxio.Their Web Site is now an unhelpful mess, and virtually impossible to get any useful answer from, and when I tried to uninstall Easy CDC to load Nero Burning Rom 5.5 (they are not supposed to be on a P.C. at the same time together), Easy CDC removed a vital Windows System File resulting in my having had to 're-load Windows', and the rest of my Hard Drive, from a Disaster Recovery Set, which, of course, has re-installed Easy CDC!! Fortunately Nero now has a program which deletes Drivers which clash with it and, after about 4 weeks, it looks as though I will soon be burning CDs again...

I haven't been able to use all the features on this item yet. I had Creator 4 Delux that I used to make slide show photo albums with audio tracks that worked very well except I wanted to play them on DVD. 5 Platinum was about the only affordable package that included MPEG1 encoding and, as I was already familiar with most of the features (spin doctor, take two, etc.), I went with this package and am so far satisfied.. Not impressed yet. True, the various packages could be better integrated but they are functional. When I have the Xmas pics in hand and have a chance to do a slide show on that I will know more about this.

Follow-up comments:
OK,, got my Xmas pics and was able to make a Video disc from the stills that the DVD was happy with. Also found that I can make menu driven DVD's and a few other features that I hadn't expected.
I also found some problems that I hadn't expected. The major one is that I cannot seem to recover changes in a saved file... ie. I create a slideshow, enter text, transition effects, audio, etc and save the file to gather more material. I reload it and the pics are there but the rest is gone... virtually have to start from scratch.. Not good!! I have come up with a few workarounds but this is a pain!! Arcsoft support seems to be non-existant... Arcsoft is the developer for this end of the suite... Roxio support is less. Maybe would be better if I went for the paid support be e-mail requests are a waste.
Bottom line: The functions are there but you will need the patience of Job to ferret them out and use them, but the alternative would be to spring some MAJOR bucks for real authoring software..
...
Follow-up to the follow up.... The main reason I bought this software was to get Video Impression.. the MPEG conversion package.. I can make Video CD's but this is a REAL ugly baby... Everything MUST be done AND burned at the same sitting.. All the other functions seem to work OK, I have Windows Me, I would suggest Win 2K or XP users avoid this stuff. Music people with other OP systems will likely find it OK, Direct CD with Win 98 and Me worked great...

2.0 out of 5 stars Be wary if you have Windows ME

I purchased this program because I wanted to burn VCD disks and I had the old Easy-CD 3. Unfortunately it seems to dislike Windows ME. The software would not install and I was unable to load any patches because they said "no recognized version exists". I worked with tech support and they finally said I had to re-install my OS.
I wiped my hard drive and re-installed Windows ME fresh and still had the same problem. So I guess I'll just wait until I upgrade to XP and hopefully it will work.
I gave it 2 stars based on the original version 3 I had and the assumption that it would be pretty good if I could get it installed...
