I have much guilt for the amount of paper towels I have used. I saw the rolls of reusable microfiber “paper towels” and decided to try them to see if I can quit or deeply reduce paper towel usage (got them in black so can’t see stains which deter me from reusing for some reason).
I didn’t want to run a load of laundry to clean a few little towels once or twice a week and rinsing doesn’t clean well enough especially if the towels touched any meat juices so I got this little washer that I can set up by the sink. I keep three fiber towels in use for different functions and when they’re dirty I fill the bin with the hottest water from the sink, throw them in with a little clothes soap where they wash up nicely in a few minutes using less water, electricity, time, etc. The agitator is surprisingly strong. I rinse them under the sink faucet, squeeze them out and lay them over a drying rack where they dry quickly because they’re thin. Then they’re ready to reuse and seem safe and clean to me which is what always compelled me to reach for another fresh paper towel. I plan to use it when loading or emptying the dishwasher for efficient time management.
I do attach the white hose while washing and run it up thru a cabinet pull to hold it up high. When wash is done, I just take the hose down into the sink and let it drain out. Then a quick hot rinse inside to remove any soap, turn it upside down and give it a good shake to get out water from the impeller area, set it upside down on the over-the-sink drying rack to fully dry out before collapsing it down to store under the sink. At this rate the roll of black fiber towels should last me a good long time as the ones I’ve washed haven’t frayed or torn yet.
There are also blue UV lights in the bottom that are supposed to help kill bacteria. I’m wondering if I could also use it to soak lettuces like romaine in cold water after first rinsing the leaves to remove sand (romaine has been known to contain eColi). Not sure on the specs of the UV lights but I’ll try it anyway. If it could have dual uses, it would be a good investment.
We will see on its durability. It does make some whirry noise but not bad and the spin bucket didn’t remove much water from the little towels but rinsing and squeezing out is faster anyway. Its real value is in the wash cycles and its compact portable size for small item washing. I could see it kept in a kitchen, bathroom or laundry room or of course any place without laundry facilities but with electricity (camping, RV, dorm, airbnb, hotel).
