I know this is a bit long of a review but I wanted to be thorough and speak to some of the comments in the other reviews so bear with me.
First, these lights look very aesthetically pleasing when compared to many grow lights. It doesn’t scream industrial grow tent or anything like that. It makes kind of a pretty halo above my plants. So I’m happy about that.
The light is bright but not blinding and illuminates my space nicely at night. I tried to show in the photos about how far the light reaches when placed above a plant.
I will say that if you are hoping to illuminate anything above these halo lights you’re not going to find any joy. They really only cast light downward. I was surprised how little the light seems to travel upwards from these, although I’m fine with that.
Secondly, the chord is nice and long, and can easily be wound around the pole to keep the wire situation more tidy. The pole is also very long, generously so. It can extend much higher than I anticipated. It could fit in most larger size house plants that I can think of.
Thirdly, I see a lot of people in these reviews saying they don’t think these lights are bright enough, but i don’t agree. I think they are very good lights and will probably help your plant in most circumstances.
First of all, idk why so many people in the reviews have their poles extended so high above such small plants?!
I mean yeah, if you are gonna have your grow light like three feet away from your plant the light is gonna be a lot more diffuse and it’s not going to work as well.
The pole is extendable to fit the size of your plant, you don’t need to have the light pole as extended as possible for every plant. If it’s a small plant why are you extending it so far away from it? Of course the leaves are going to reach for it, it’s extremely far away in that circumstance.
I first bought one of these and put it on my monstera that I had pulled back away from my windows which was definitely not getting enough light. It was reaching like crazy and wasn’t growing anymore.
As soon as I put the first of these lights on it, it shot out three new leaves within a week, so I know it’s helping and doing something. It also helped to harden off one of my older new leaves that just wasn’t hardening.
I tried to add a lot of photos of its growth and where I put the light so you can see how close it is, and I’ve had it on my monstera for about a month now.
You can see how much it likes it, it’s moved all its leaves to be directly under it. And that’s another thing about keeping it closer to your plant. It’s an effective light but it’s not that powerful. Not so much that I think it would scorch most plants.
I would probably keep it a bit higher up and on the shortest timer length for the first few days if I wanted to be safer and give it an adjustment period, (ie like a calathea or something more shade loving) but depending on the plant idk if that would even be necessary.
When I got my 2nd and 3rd of these grow lights I just went ahead and plopped one right on my white bird of paradise on the strongest setting for 12 hours right above the leaves. It’s already putting out a new leaf too.
Now I will say, if you want to use this in a basement with no windows then yeah, it might not be enough light to grow a big plant year round, it might get the plant over a winter but if you are really in a situation with no natural light then maybe you should consider a higher powered more intense grow light.
Also for your more exotic variegated expensive rare plants etc, you might want to make sure to have a back up plan if you get one of these. These may still work but imo if I’m gonna shell out a lot for a plant I would probably pay for a more expensive lighting setup, as expensive plants warrant more lux toys to keep them happy.
Imo this is perfect for the person who has a normal plant in a room with mid-to lower indirect natural light that wants to supplement that light, or has a brightly lit room but maybe wants to put a plant in a less than ideal spot in that room. Or for people trying to give more light to plants over winter.
One last comment I have is that as you might be able to see in my photos of my monstera, the plant likes this light so much that it’s large leaves are trying to press themselves up to the light and that does cause the light to be blocked off from some of the lower foliage. I don’t think this will be an issue for all plants but for ones like my monstera it might not hurt to use two of them if you can.
tldr: it’s a great useful supplemental grow light that looks nice and is definitely helping my plants put out new leaves and grow. I recommend them!
