4.0 out of 5 stars Strat Style Guitar

This is my third Gearit guitar. I liked the color and basically bought it for the color and the promotional price. I figured for the price I could mod the guitar. I was surprised that the guitar was pretty good right out of box. It needed intonation and a slight truss rod adjustment so I could lower the action to my preferred 1.5 mm at the 12th fret. The strings work but I replaced them with 9-42's. The nut was weel cut and tuners work well but don't have the smoothest feel. The guitar is a bit heavy like it could be oak or ash as per description. The paint finish is pretty good with one exception, there are some visible scratches under the clear coat in the paint by the arm carve on the front when you look at finish at an angle. The pickups actually sound pretty good and i don't plan to replace them. Frets were nicely rounded on ends and were mostly level with only needing a little more polishing. I do not believe the fretboard is rosewood and needed some lemon oil. As others have said the guitar bag is more like a dust cover with only a small amount of padding. The accessories little tuner is adequate, strings not so good and guitar cord not bad. Neck fit was tight and well done. Tuners are adequate and I may replace them. The bridge is typical of budget style guitar thin block. The guitar once I set it up plays quite well with a nice radius on the fretboard. Neck profile is neither thick or thin being a good "C". It is highly varnished and I smoothed it out with steel wool to improve hand friction to make it easier to move around the neck. My biggest gripe is the guitar is heavy at 8 Lbs 4 ounces. I like guitars a bit lighter. The guitar is full thickness and for less than $100.00 I am very pleasantly surprised. It required the least amount of effort to get it to sound and play good of the 3 I have purchased. The other two a LP and Tele style needed more fret work, shielding and replacement of pickups and string nuts. I can recommend this one.

Usual Strat style. Quality is more than the price.
For a person whose hobby is buying off named guitars, this is a find. Also, gig bag is good. I'd buy this again, knowing the beautiful metallic charcoal color.

The only thing I didn't get to test was the included tuner... it didn't come with a button cell battery. (Update on that below, it did)

The guitar seems to work just fine.
When I saw the amplifier, I was a little miffed at the small size and the fact that it just had a USB cable, no power brick, but I decided to give it a go, and that's when I realized it's RECHARGEABLE! The sound is actually not even too quiet for home practice. It has distortions to make it sound dirty or clean or anywhere in between.

So far, I'm still working on it holding a tune the next day, but that's usually how my guitars go when they're new. It holds a tune throughout my practice session, so that's nice. And today, it's really close. The notes were right, but just a little flat. I've been using the amp for a couple days and haven't actually charged it yet. It still works from the charge it got from the factory.

For the price of the guitar, this is a nice beginner guitar, especially considering the accessories. I am not using the gig bag as I have a guitar stand, but it can fit the guitar and the amp and other accessories super easily with no issues.

The audio cable is thinner than the ones I usually buy, but it works just fine. The amp has a headphone jack for quiet practice that sounds loud to you. I get to mess with all of the sounds of the amp and guitar combo without really disturbing others.

I don't really use picks as I finger pick and strum, but it comes with a few of those as well and the colors are all nice. It comes strung (very lightly strung for shipping) and then also comes with extra strings as well.

Overall, for this price, this is a really good guitar. The only thing I'd recommend to get with it is a capo as some sheet music/guitar tabs require it.

UPDATE:
The battery was clipped in the clip of the tuner where you'd usually clip it to the guitar. It works perfectly. The screen is green when it's correct, and if it's sharp or flat, it's blue. There's a digital screen that tells what note is playing and a digital needle pointing to how far away you are from being right. Short pressing the power button changes the modes on it and long pressing turns it off and on.
Tuning options are:
Chromatic
Guitar (6E 5A 4D 3G 2B 1E)
Bass
Violin
Ukulele C (Standard 4G 3C 2E 1A)
Ukulele D (4A 3D 2F# 1B)

4.0 out of 5 stars Poor intonation

This guitar has a pretty nice build quality. The wood is solid and heavy, and there are no weird creaks and rattles anywhere, although a few of the nuts did take a bit of extra tightening out of the box. The set includes everything you need to get started, although none of the accessories are particularly worth keeping if you plan on continuing to play for a longer period of time. The cable has shoddy connectors that get stuck on the way in and out, and the tuner isn't particularly accurate even compared to my own ears. However, at this price point it's hard to complain. I replaced the strings with some Elixirs and it felt much better to play than the included strings.

Many see the value in this guitar as a platform to start modding, since the wood body is a nice quality. However, one glaring issue with this guitar is the placement of the bridge, which is about 1cm too close to the pickups. As a result, no matter how much I lengthen the strings by unscrewing the saddles, it is still considerably sharper at the 12th fret compared to the open string, by as much as half a semitone. You can't fix this without drilling new holes for the bridge and completely ruining the look of the guitar. I was able to somewhat fix the higher strings by removing the saddles and flipping them around, but the worst offender is the low E string. I can see on the product photo that the bridge appears much more slanted than it is on my particular unit, leading me to believe that it's a defect with mine. Regardless, it can be incredibly demoralizing to a new player who is trying to learn a difficult instrument when everything they play sounds out of tune. As long as you are aware of the issues with intonation, this is a nice cheap guitar for whatever cheap guitar needs you may have.
