About this item

The Instant New York Times Best Seller!

“Sublime ... Colgan infuses her latest book with humor, wit, suspense and a perfectly cast love triangle.” (USA Today)

"The Christmas Bookshop is literary hot chocolate with a bourbon shot: hot, sweet but with a surprising emotional kick." (The Times (UK))

Perfect for the holidays! A brand-new heartwarming Christmas novel from the beloved New York Times best-selling author of The Bookshop on the Corner and Christmas at the Island Hotel.

Laid off from her department store job, Carmen has perilously little cash and few options. The prospect of spending Christmas with her perfect sister Sofia, in Sofia’s perfect house with her perfect children and her perfectly ordered yuppie life, does not appeal.

Frankly, Sofia doesn’t exactly want her prickly sister Carmen there, either. But Sofia has yet another baby on the way, a mother desperate to see her daughters get along, and a client who needs help revitalizing his shabby old bookshop. So Carmen moves in and takes the job.

Thrown rather suddenly into the inner workings of Mr. McCredie’s ancient bookshop on the picturesque streets of historic Edinburgh, Carmen is intrigued despite herself. The store is dusty and disorganized, but undeniably charming. Can she breathe some new life into it in time for Christmas shopping? What will happen when a famous and charismatic author takes a sudden interest in the bookshop - and Carmen? And will the Christmas spirit be enough to help heal her fractured family?

This was an enjoyable, quick holiday read! Very cute! Enjoyed the characters, learned about Edinburgh (a city I’ve never been to or read much about but now would love to visit), and found the bookshop very intriguing!

Every person who's Been the younger Sibling of a brilliant older brother or sister , will really identify with Carmen And her cranky disposition, covering her feelings of inadequacy with snark and Attitude. A very enjoyable read with very believable people and interesting contrasts between every single one. A fine plot With interesting twists and turns and Frustrations along the way. Loved it!

This is really not my usual read. It was definitely less Hallmarky than I was expecting, which was good. I think this was a cute story with a good message and some very annoying characters.

This is my second Jenny Colgan book to read. I am definitely a fan! Her books are like drinking your favorite hot beverage. (Right now, Pumpkin Spice Coffee or Hot Buttered Rum). Her vivid words creat characters you will absolutely know. Her description of the settings just takes you there. I just ordered the first two in the Mure series for my girlfriend and I’m going for the second in this series. I can’t imagine I’ll miss any of Jenny Colgan’s books. They are a “sure-to-enjoy” read!

What a delightful and cozy read. Sometimes your family can make you feel like you're like choices are below their standards but do they have life any better than you do?. That's what these characters are about to find out in this cozy heartwarming Christmas story. Enjoyed it.

Don't let the first 30-some pages (pages on my iPad) cause you to stop reading. I disliked the main characters and almost everything about the early part of the book. But after that, I found the story charming and interesting. I gave this only 4 stars because of the beginning; most of the book is a 5.
