5.0 out of 5 stars Simple star map helps identify targets in the night sky
Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2024
This is a very simple, classic design of star map. I have apps on my phone that help me identify targets in the night sky, but I really like using the old school star charts and maps. This map provides a really nice, visual representation of how celestial objects move about the sky, which is great for kids, and still inspires awe in me. This one is easy to use, just spin the dial and line it up with the north star. The relative magnitude (or brightness) of each star is indicated by how large of a white dot it has on the map. That way you can quickly identify what you are looking at in the sky. I like to look at this during the day, and determine what targets I'll be able to try to identify in which part of the sky at night.

This is a great night sky map that is useful all year as you turn the celestial circle to match the current date. The map is detailed, with all kinds of interesting celestial objects pointed out. My only problem with it is that it gets sent out in a plain paper envelope, without any rigid backing material. This arrived in a padded envelope, but that wasn't enough to prevent it from getting deeply creased in several places. The circle can still spin, but the creases are permanent and will always mar the item.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect start map for astronomy nerds

I do a ton of astrophotography, and this is a handy guide to toss in my bag. I'm quite familiar with the night sky and know a number of celestial objects—like Orion being visible in the winter and Andromeda and the Milky Way during late summer. Even so, this guide is a fantastic resource, especially when I’m in areas with no cell service! This would make a great gift for those who are starting their adventures in the night sky!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great star chart, a little tricky to use

Really like this star chart. Printed on heavy cardstock with a rotating night sky. Make sure this works in your part of the world as it varies depending on what latitude you're at. A little tricky to use... have to line up a number of things (direction, time, etc) to make sure you're looking at the correct stars. Once you get it, it works well. Very interesting to see and identify the various stars and planets.

I got this star map to surprise my teenage son, who is absolutely NASA obsessed. It’s going to be an enchanting addition to his Christmas stocking, peeking out the top. The map includes 100 of the best deep-sky objects, making it perfect for young adventurers with a love for magic and space.

Just a quick tip: make sure to check your latitude to ensure it’s suitable for your area.

The design is thoughtful and engaging, perfect for sparking curiosity and wonder. It’s a wonderful tool for stargazing and exploring the night sky, and is a great idea to keep kids off screens.

For young astronomers, this map is a ticket to the stars! ????

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Guide to the Stars
Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2024
I was fascinated with the stars when I was a kid and am interested in getting my nieces into astronomy. This is a nice map that maps up the night sky. You can rotate it based on the day and hours between 6 pm and 6 am. Though, you will have to factor Daylight Saving Time yourself if you are during those months. The front is the map, while back gives you a bunch of pointers on how to best use the map to look at the stars and even gives you a list of meteor showers and when to look out for them. My one complaint is that it did not seem to be cut right and there is a little white at the bottom of the map.
