Top reviews from the United States
Similar to what has been said in some other reviews, I did all the suggested troubleshooting, tried numerous different browsers and I kept getting the same error when trying to set up the requisite Intuit account: “The feature you’ve requested is temporarily unavailable.” Finally somehow after a few hours I was able to set up an account and then I got a code to my cellphone, which I validated and then Intuit sent me an email to the email address I put in the account set up.
After spending hours on this, I shut down and then the next day I went to use my Intuit account login info to go back into the TurboTax software I purchased from Amazon to then enter in the license key. However, my account info wasn’t recognized and I couldn’t proceed. It didn’t recognize my email, phone number or user ID, so none of the recovery methods were available to me. It was as if I hadn’t set up an account. This, despite having validated it the day before through the validation methods sent to me by Intuit when I finally set up the account.
I decided to call customer service and spent one hour and 20 minutes on the phone and I got no meaningful feedback as to why my account wouldn’t work. Finally escalated to a supervisor who was nice but said she couldn’t help but she did see that I set up an account the day before, but it was locked for some unknown reason and that in order to see if my account would unblock, I’d have to email them a copy of my driver’s license, passport or notarized letter. All of which are completely overreaching simply to activate and use boxed software and no other services with Intuit.
I am very tech savvy but all the troubleshooting was to no avail. They could not send me a link or code to be able to re-validate my account successfully set up and validated by Intuit the day prior.
This Intuit account set up was a new requirement this year, which is a surprise, but even so, if you are going to require people register with you, then the process should be smooth and if/when there are issues, there should be reasonable ways for users to be able to regain access. It seems overreaching and disproportionate to ask for copies of a driver’s license, passport or notarized letter to regain access to an account that was set up without requiring any such personal information to begin with (you only need email, username and phone number to set up an account).
Also, I think it should be disclosed that accounts are now required to be able to use TurboTax, but even so I think most people wouldn’t think they’d have to go through the extreme hassles that I and others — based on reading what I have about others with this same issue in various reputable sites on the internet and here on Amazon — have gone through to try to set one up.
The hours I spent the last few days trying to set up an account, and then the issues afterwards have taken more of my time than it will for me to actually do my taxes. I can’t believe that such a large company such as Intuit has these gaps with account setup and troubleshooting. Trying to get a refund now, which is uncertain as I bought on Amazon, as I have no expectation this will work smoothly and I will not provide copies of personal information as that is overreaching and not a requirement to set up an account to begin with. In other words, they don’t have this personal info as part of the account setup so why ask for it to recover access to the account? Intuit can simply revalidate my account as it originally validated it: via cellphone or email, but it refuses to and says that “it is another department.” and I have to provide copies of personal information to see if they can resolve it. Any other similar issue with logins would be normally be quickly resolved by resending the validation code to the phone and/or email — something they already successfully did in my case the day before. However, the help desk told me that it doesn’t have this option at their disposal.
To those seeking a refund, I haven’t tried on Amazon yet. I see it says “no refunds”, but Intuit sent me a link that they say is used to request one from them. Maybe Amazon pays Intuit directly so the refund has to come from Intuit? So, perhaps contact them if you are also looking to get answers on refunds and see what applies to your situation.
In closing, I have used TurboTax for years, but Intuit is, to date, unable to provide the reasonable and customary resolutions to issues in this new account setup process and they are leaving me with little choice but to look at competitor software also leave an honest review on Amazon regarding this issue and experience. From what I have read, I’m not the only one.
