    The package included ONE magnifying device and slides.

    The device allows children to examine the world up close and personal. Magnifying glasses increase the specimen 10x the size. This device claims to magnify 1000x - difficult to prove.

    It's difficult to examine insects, because they craw out of view. However, a dead fly looks like a monster at 1000x. Cereal, bread, cotton, cloth look different.

    Give to the child with an inquisitive mind.

    The handheld microscope blew my expectations away. It is extremely more powerful than I anticipated. It is very powerful and sensitive and you have to hold it steady to engage the target. It comes with some slide specimens to practice with. After you done experimenting you can remove the plastic slide holder piece and look at anything you want to. The large focus adjustment is easy to use and you can actually film or take a picture of what your checking out which is stored on the SSD that comes with it. USB chargeable! A great item for kids to explore. Highly recommend!

    Frist thing I noticed is that the manual incorrectly identifies the power button, and for my older eyes the button identification symbols aren’t that easy to see. But once you play with them you figure it out pretty quickly. The manual needs to swap descriptions for No. 1 and 2 on page 3. There are few other oddly worded instructions in the manual but for the most part it will help in understanding the functions.

    On my MacBook I was able to use the Photo Booth app to see the video from the Bebang microscope. I noted that you have to turn on the microscope first, then plug in the cable to the microscope and then into the MacBook. The display on the microscope will show selection for Memory or PC camera. Selecting PC camera and then opening Photo Booth app and selecting the camera showing up as General-Audio brings up the video feed from the microscope. Here is where you can experience one of the issues many other reviews have noted with the true optics and the digital zoom. The manual large wheel allows you to focus but only to the limits of the built-in optics of the lens. The digital zoom buttons on the microscope do not work when connected to the computer. While it’s pretty cool to still see things magnified a lot, you can not zoom in 200 to 1000 times while connected to a computer, and as many have noted, digital zoom is not great for high resolution which is really what you’re looking for in a microscope. If you disconnect the cable from the computer the microscope will shutdown. If you then wanted to go from video to memory card, you have to disconnect the cable from the computer, the microscope will shutdown, and then reconnect the cable and select Memory on the microscope. The flash memory card will then show up in the file system on the computer.

    Bottom line, I agree that it’s misleading to say this has 1000 optical zoom, at best its 100x maybe less and then the 200x to 1000x is just digital zoom which can get very blurry/pixilated. Please note that the digital zoom does work with the display screen on the microscope and if you record video or pictures using the digital zoom magnifications they will be captured to the supplied 32Gb micro flash card and you can then see them on a connected computer.

    Even with the misleading marketing, this is geared towards kids, it’s still a fun experience to see and capture video and pictures of the tiny stuff. It’s built for kids and a bit rugged, the included glass slides of various things to look at are a nice add, but they are glass and so should be handled with care and supervision. They can be a bit fumbly to insert into the slots of the removable slide holder. I noted that the slide holder can be flipped around to the microscope and still be used to help protect the lens from tiny fingers.

    I keep this on my desk at work, and people love it. As a gadget that piques interest and can be useful, it works very well. It is intuitive to use, although does have enough technical aspects to it with zoom and focus that it does take a bit of practice to master. Although, just picking it up and figuring it out and having fun looking at very small things is enough to be engaging and quite rewarding.

    The screen is clear, lighting is good, and I haven't ran it out of a full battery charge yet after weeks of having it out with occasional use.

    For the cost, this is better than a fidget toy, and engaging for people of any age.

    This Handheld Microscope for Kids is pretty decent. It says it magnification is 200-1000. I have used a few microscopes and I am not 100% sure if this one goes to 1000x but it still does a really good job. It's also very simple to operate. You can take pictures and videos and it stays on the microscope since it comes with a micro SD card. You can use it with the base or without and switching between the two is easy as the base snaps right on and off. Its screen is very clear. My kids ate 10 and 8 and they both can operate it without issues. I also love using it. Its a really fun and I enjoy it just as much as the kids. I highly recommend it.
