Bought this kit for my daughter as a gift. We followed the instructions careful and boom! Sea monkey. It’s easy to assemble, great size and fun for her to look at it. We did some educational research to learn more about them. Great experience!

Dont be so quick to throw them away, they're there, you just cant see them. There are a few things you have to keep in mind to raise these.
    - They need warm temperatures, at least 70 degrees F, too chilly and they will not thrive and even die.
    - They need oxygen. Either use the little pump thing it came with to blow bubbles in the tank( google to find out how often), or if youre too lazy like me, get a pump with an air stone, and put on the lowest setting. Too much agitation will kill them.
    - They dont over eat, what kills them is suffocation. If the water is murky, thats too much food, and they will suffocate, especially if you're not blowing bubbles or dont have a bubbler with a pump. I usually feed them when water is clear.

I thought mine died off, but then I saw 4 all of a sudden. They started having babies, now I have a ton of them. I just leave them be. I top off the water up to line, thats to keep the salinity level constant. Make sure pump is working and they get enough oxygen. I dont have them by a window, but I do use a grow light. They stay at 76-78 degrees, I keep them by the tv, that keeps them warm. I feed them about every other day, not too much. You have to play it by ear, and depends on how much critters you have in your tank. I got the Magic Castle on April 13, and it is now June 13. So far they are thriving. I got the Sea Monkeys on Mars June 5, so they're just starting to show up. Over all they are easy to take care of. No need for water changes.

Don't remove the muck that accumulates at the bottom of their tank, they need that. The dead sea monkey are full of vitamins and minerals, that the live ones need. There's also eggs in there. Dont change the water either, you'll end up throwing away the babies that you can't see.

I noticed that a lot of the low reviews were during the winter months. The reason why they either didnt hatch or died off was probably because they were cold. They need warmth, at least 76-80 degrees F.

These arent toys, they are living beings with specific needs to live and thrive.

1.0 out of 5 stars Never worked
Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2024
They never hatched & my kids waited for awhile. We followed the instructions given. Note I also didn’t know you would have to give oxygen to them, by creating bubbles. Maybe I’m a rookie? But I was hoping if they did hatch I wouldn’t have to do anything. Definitely don’t need one more obligation just not for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long live the sea monkeys!
Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2024
I bought this product (and Sea Monkeys on Mars) to share a bit of fun nostalgia with my high school students. We read an article about fairy shrimp materializing at Burning Man and my students had no idea what sea monkeys were. As a millennial, I wanted to share the excitement of watching these little swimmers materialize from dust that I remembered from my own youth. I bought two sets and set them up with different classes. The sea monkeys hatched within a few days and for the first month or so, there were lots (maybe 15-20?). We could watch them swim around their habitat and even were able to observe them mating and carrying egg sacs (and pooping). My students were amazed. A year later and there are still 4-6 guys swimming around and reproducing. We used distilled water and the purification drops provided, fed them the growth food once a week (there is still half a bag left from the original kit), and aerated the water daily with the pipette provided. We didn’t buy a fancy filter and did not clean the container when debris started to settle at the bottom, though we did continue to add fresh distilled water as it evaporated. Great gift and tons of fun!

Awesome experience! The sea babies are great to bring to life, cultivate, and observe. Now that they are mating, I just wish more food was provided as they thrive and survive… life finds a way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift or collectors tank - arrived in one day and 15 eggs have hatched
Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2024
This product arrived in one day (Here in southern coastal California- wherever the closest Amazon Shipping center was, they must have had some of these on hand), the tank is sturdy and colorful, the egg and purifier (salt+egg) packets were dry and fresh, and in a little over 48 hours, I started noticing small hatchlings. It's been about 2 and a half days since then, and even more are hatching.

Note that water temperature and the age of the eggs can vary hatching time by a LOT, and unless you've grown these guys before, you may mistake new hatchlings for inanimate specks for potentially 5+ days after putting in the eggs- it doesn't always work as fast as it did for me.

10/10 would definitely recommend as a gift or for your own nostalgia.

I was not aware this was a used item. Not worth anything to us now and too late to order a new one. Not pleased at all.
