5.0 out of 5 stars Did It!

My 4 year old computer was passing. The hard drive kept running and running and the browsers were taking coffee breaks between tasks. Media player was simply too hard to use. My computer told me I was low on memory so something was up. Before I installed Mechanic I did a system restore unfortunately in safe mode, I deleted files and neither worked. System Mechanic was a cheap alternative for me. I loaded it, it froze on the first load, rebooted it and it ran. It took almost 10 hours to fix the computer but now it runs like it did 2 years ago, fast! After installing it analyzed the computer and it told me my performance was poor, which I knew. If you were to call to have someone fix this over the internet you would be looking at $60-$140, give this a try!

Apparently a very good program from what I am told but my computer had crashed and I ran it on my old computer (with XP pro) and it would not work at all. Then I tried it on my new computer that I bought 4 months ago and it crashed my computer -- took me 2 hours to get back up and running. A dangerous program, at least it has been for me.

I have found the problem, I think: So, I have looked and looked for an email address for Amazon.com so I can discuss my problem but I cannot find a way to contact them or the person that sold this item through them.
What I have done is; I looked on my orders on Amazon.com and it clearly says there that the program I ordered is for Windows 7, xp, etc. but when I look on the box that I received; the version that they sent me says for vista, xp, and 2000 only so they sent me the wrong thing. I am just putting this here in hope that someone at Amazon will read this and contact me to tell me how I can get the program that I ordered.

4.0 out of 5 stars Valuable product

I have used this product for over a year, and find it on the whole very valuable. I would recommend it, and am continuing to re-new my subscription. Amazon offers a very good price for the physical product.

    Pros
*Easy to use on a basic level
    *Corrects hard drive errors
    *Re-aligns programs for faster bootup
*I am not aware of anything quite like this, although I gather there are competitors

    Cons
*Annoying Taskbar popups which apparently can not be turned off
*Annoying upgrade and subscription promotions -- they're really annoying and continue even after you've actually upgraded the product and extended your subscription
*System Mechanic will consider a system in "poor" condition for small issues such as a large amount of deleted data in the trash bin or the failure to back up the Registry after an extended period; this is a silly assessment
*After a system correction, SM will frequently call for a re-boot, which is great if you have nothing to do but sit at your monitor and watch the screen while the computer reboots, and don't actually want to use the computer; in addition, after correcting errors on the hard drive a system re-boot involves an entire check of your hard drive. This can take a considerable time on a large hard drive and interrupts one's work flow, defeating the purpose of keeping your system in good working order.

After installing the program I am was unable to open and use the program. There is no phone number or help in the United States
that I can call. I would not advise anyone to buy this product. If they can't offer support ,then don't sell the product.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Very Dangerous Program
Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2012
I used this to remove some of the startup items that it recommended and lost my wireless strength indicator, my Media Center volume controls, and my PSI status indicator. Restoring the registry only got back the Media Center controls. If you use this program make sure to back up your registry before making any changes, look at the changes it recommends, only choose the ones that are applicable and only make a few at a time. Do not let it "repair" your system automatically. My computer still crashes, freezes and takes a long time to boot, although it seems to operate a little faster between crashes. I will be making some more changes recommended by the program but very selectively. As somebody else noted, they want $30 every year I don't know if the program stops working after a year or it it just stops updating.

System Mechanic is a great way to check your computer for an possible problems that it could have that could cause you computer to run slowly or to stop working. It checks youe system and tells you the problems that it has found. It then ask you if you want to fix them. It is one of the easiest ways to check your computer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps my systems running smoothly
Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2014
System Mechanic keeps my computer running smoothly. I am very satisified with the software. It is not a very intrusive program and is not using up my memory or processor when I want to use the system. I have it on 3 computers and have had no problems.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless!
Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2013
I hate to be cheated, but I did believe the Amazon ads.

This product is useless. The computer that needed the treatment is as hopeless as before. Yes, the "System Mechanic" program claimed to find all sorts of problems in the computer and fix them, but it was all bogus. The computer is as slow and hopeless as before. They claim to "fix" three computers, but I will drop the disc into my shredder!

At least, all I lost is $11. Now I will not trust Amazon's claims.

Beware, any of you who have a slow computer. You will not be helped. If, like I, you only lose $11, consider yourselves lucky and run for it!

The shame is on Amazon. Iolo is some "california" scam shop; Amazon should care more about it's customers.
