5.0 out of 5 stars Decent for a beginner Bass
Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2023
I am a 54 year old metalhead that is finally learning how to play the Bass guitar. I'm still very new and getting more comfortable each day playing. I'm around 7 weeks in. I have a really nice 40 year old shortscacle Bass but I also wanted a full size to learn on. So I found this one on Amazon. I read some of the reviews and decided to get one. The price is decent, just about 100 with shipping.
It arrived in factory fresh condition in a decent Styrofoam lined box. The brand on the guitar is Garry. I've seen them listed too on Amazon and they look the same so I'm not worried about it.
The guitar body is very light. The finish is nice and has no flaws. The neck is very solid and smooth. It felt top-heavy at first but I got used to it after the first time playing. It has been mentioned in other reviews about a gap between where the neck meets the body. Mine has a tiny gap too. I'm not worried about it. The neck is solidly attached.
How it sounds. I plugged it in straight out of the box. Tuned the strings with a clip on tuner and started playing. It sounded good, like a bass. It just sounded like it was a little dull. I played with the knobs some and was ok with it. Every night I'm practicing with it, getting more comfortable with it and liking how it feels. I did put a better strap on as the one that came with it was not that comfortable.
Last week I had it tuned/setup at a guitar shop. It made a noticable difference. I don't know all of what was done to it but it feels better. Strings are closer to the fretboard and comfortable to use. Other reviews mentioned replacing the strings. I didn't since I am still learning. The sound has improved too. It sounds like it has what was missing more depth, less dull. I definitely recommend a tune.
I think this will last me long enough to save up for a really nice full size Bass.
**UPDATE** I did replace the strings with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky strings. More comfortable and a slight improvement in the sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars At this price level unbeatable quality!

I bought this to replace my old Ibanez bass that needed a neck repair. It arrived the next day and I immediately fell in love with it. Right out of the box, the setup fair and the string were OK, and the sound was great.
I had to tighten the tussrod a bid and adjusted the saddles for height and intonation, and I oiled the neck
    - not a biggy - and now I have a great playing and sounding bass for under $100. It plays better and sounds better than my $500 Ibanez bass. I also like the light weight.
Note that the add says "Ktaxon" but the headstock has the "Glarry" logo and name on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great beginner bass
Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2023
I recently purchased a 4 string electric bass guitar for my son and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of this instrument. Not only is it visually stunning, with a sleek and modern design, but the sound it produces is simply amazing.

The guitar is incredibly lightweight and easy to handle, making it perfect for beginners like my son. The neck is smooth and comfortable to play, and the strings are perfectly spaced, allowing for quick and easy finger movement. The pickups produce a rich, full sound that can be adjusted with ease to suit any playing style or musical genre.

What I really appreciate about this bass guitar is the attention to detail that has gone into its design. The hardware is top-notch, with high-quality tuning keys and a solid bridge that keeps the guitar in tune even during intense playing sessions. The finish is flawless and the overall build quality is superb.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a great bass guitar for a beginner or intermediate player, I highly recommend this 4 string electric bass guitar. It's a fantastic instrument that offers both great sound and excellent value for money. I'm confident my son will enjoy playing it for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yep, it's a Glarry, all right, but I'm pleased.

I'll call it a "fortunate mistake", but at least it happened in my favor. What I ordered was the Ktaxon 4-string bass patterned after a well-known Ibanez bass and I chose "sunset" as the color as it was $10.00 less than any of the other colors I looked at, at least it was at the time I ordered it. What I received was a white Glarry-branded bass of the same model, and the white one was the one I would have ordered had it been the same price.
The bass needed only minor adjustments (done by me) to make it very playable, although it played well right out of the box.
That the bass is made by Glarry isn't a surprise, I suspected as much after reading several reviews. My experience removed any doubts I might have had, and playing it removed any doubts I might have had as to the quality of the bass. I love it and I think you will, too.
The fretwork on mine is wonderful and the finish is flawless. The basswood body is very light and resonates nicely, and I play the bass on my lap and haven't experienced any terrible "neck dive" some people have mentioned. It plays well when used with a strap, too.
That companies in Asia can produce guitars of this build quality, at the prices they charge, is amazing to me. I'm happy with my purchase and would definitely buy from Glarry/Ktaxon again.

You could not build this bass for this price with a woodshop full of tools. I've bought cheap guitars in the past and the fretboard always needs work. This neck and fretboard are flawless. You obviously need to buy better strings. I always buy DR. I got inspired by the black and white look and got DR Black Beauties and customized the bass with some Cricut vinyl. The chrome knobs that came with this bass were better quality than the replacement chrome ones I bought for my Gretsch hollow body guitar last year. I move those to it and found the black plastic ones that came with the Gretsch to put on here.
I love the way this bass looks, feels, and plays. I hadn't played bass in 25 years, and now I'm playing every day. Buy this bass for practically nothing and spend your money on good strings, a great amp like my Hartke, a good cable, and a nice strap.
I wouldn't recommend the full-size bass for a beginner. Get a smaller scale to learn songs and enjoy playing, then get a full-size bass.
