5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome telescope overall!

Super easy to use telescope. Feels very sturdy and well made. The mount is way better than other telescopes at this price point. The lenses are okay and work as you would think but they are little difficult to focus down with your eye. The camera mount is actually much better then using your own eyes. Once you line up the phone camera with the lens you can get a really great shot of the moon. The top mount is more for using a star gazing app to figure out where to point the telescope so it's not really useful. Instead just use the phone camera mount on the lens for the best results. This is probably the best beginner telescopes you can find under 200 so I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners - Impressive View of the Moon!
Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2024
Update: We used the telescope again during a full moon and enjoyed seeing the details clearly. It’s not a telescope for serious stargazing, but for beginners, it’s simple to use and makes exploring the night sky fun. I could see it being a good Christmas gift for someone looking for an easy way to try out a telescope.

My husband and I are complete beginners with telescopes, so we wanted something simple yet interesting to use. After reading some one-star reviews that mentioned it was hard to set up and focus, we were a bit hesitant to buy it. But that wasn’t our experience at all. My husband set it up in about 10 minutes, and it was pretty straightforward.

We took it out tonight to look at the half-moon, and the view was surprisingly clear. We didn’t use the spotter lens—it felt a bit tricky, but that might just be our inexperience. We had no trouble finding the moon, and the details were impressive. We tried looking at stars too, but the telescope didn’t show much detail there, which we expected.

Overall, we’re happy with it as a beginner telescope and think it’s great for anyone just starting out.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed

I really wanted to like this product. My daughter was so excited. But we ended up being disappointed. It was hard to focus and get a good image. The assembly was also not easy at all. And it did not feel stable once it was finally put together. Breakdown was more of the same, and was hard to get back into the case. I’ll mess with it some more to try to get it working as advertised, but this was a letdown.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very basic

I have a high-end telescope, but it’s very difficult to cart around so I ordered this one, hoping it would be great to take to the parks, camping, etc.

It’s very portable and pretty easy to set up. The legs on the tripod are very sturdy and seemed to be decently made.

The telescope is a different story. It seems poorly constructed and cheap. It bounced to the tripod, using a screw in dovetail mount. It’s not very secure, and I imagine the screw would lose tension with use making the telescope unsecure when mounted. The overall feeling of the pieces is cheap and plastic with very thin metal. The adjustment handles are very flimsy, see video, and the screws don’t stay in place well. It’s kind of like they are stripped or don’t have enough depth to screw in and hold the adjustment handles on.

It was relatively easy to set up the view finder and locate a star. Unfortunately, the telescope doesn’t offer much more viewing than your regular binoculars would. We use Jupiter as our test subject because it’s relatively easy to see, fine, and identify. Other than being a tad bit brighter with sharper edges, I can see it no better than I can with my binoculars. You can’t see any detail on the planets. It’s simply a large dot in the middle with four little dots next to it. If you’re looking for to get your kids into astronomy or to look at large objects, like the moon or spy on your neighbor, this would be your item. If you’re looking for detail on planets or systems that are a bit farther from earth, I would invest in something better.
