5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly What I Needed
Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2024
I first ordered this unit two years ago, when my tower computer began to die, because it has all the features I need: 32 Gb RAM, 1 terabyte solid state storage, optical drive, small form factor. I could not have been happier with my purchase. It arrived securely packed, and the Windows 10 setup was smooth and clean from the moment I powered up. Its performance since then has been reliable and trouble-free. Last week I ordered the same unit for my friend, whose desktop PC had died, and again, the experience of setting it up was painless and satisfying. The unit comes with a display port/HDMI adapter and a WiFi adapter, neither of which I use (he VGA connection works perfectly fine, and I use a wired ethernet connection), but these would come in handy if needed. It also comes with a basic USB mouse and keyboard, but of course you can easily substitute wireless versions.
On a personal note, I must say that with everything streaming into and out of a cloud these days, it all seems too ephemeral for my taste. What a comfort to have a true "personal" computer with which to interact and to entrust my lifetime of accumulated documents and media.
I selected this unit based on its features, not its price. That said, I can't imagine a better value on the market today. But please don't purchase them all. I may want another one of these days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Deal as a Zoneminder Server
Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2023
I recently purchased a used, reconditioned Dell Optiplex 9020 Small Form Factor Desktop with Intel Core i7-4770 from Amazon. The reconditioning took place in a plant in Canada. I am very pleased with the performance of this computer and the ease of setup. I chose this system from Amazon after comparing it with other refurbishers because of Prime shipping.
I had been running Zoneminder on a Raspberry Pi 4 to process the video from 4 cameras and store the footage on a 6 TB external Hard drive. That system struggled and I finally decided to upgrade. The newest Raspberry Pi seemed expensive, so I decided to look at used Intel boxes. I found this system on Amazon for less than the cost of a Pi and with a free keyboard and mouse. Seemed a great bargain.
When the system arrived, it had Windows 10 Pro installed. I did not want to destroy that. I was able to shrink the partition on the 1 TB hard drive and install Debian as a dual boot operating system. The process was made easier by the fact that the drive came formatted using the GUID partition table (GPT). I installed Grub to manage the boot process, which was a breeze after I figured out that I needed to change the BIOS boot process from Legacy mode. I was able to connect the same external hard drive that I had used with the Pi to one of the USB 3 ports and it mounted without fuss under Debian.
The system comes with both HDMI and Display Port video but sans cables. I had a spare Display Port on my monitor, so I bought a cable (one-day delivery) from Amazon, and I was up and running. After initial configuration I mostly log into the system with Putty, so I hardly use the monitor. But I did want sound capability. I purchased a cheap USB speaker, and it works great. My total investment was still less than the Pi and it runs circles around it.
Rather than use the USB mouse that came with my purchase, I used the built-in Bluetooth to connect my Logitech MX master. Once again, no problems whatsoever, one less cable to mess with. I am using both the WiFi card, built-in and the 1GB ethernet port. The drivers for Debian installed by default for both. I didn’t have to hunt for anything, plug-and-play!
I love the size of this thing. You can see it in my picture beside my full-size desktop system. The external Hard Drive (purchased separately) is sitting on top of it.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this product to anyone looking for a reliable and affordable computer that is easy to install Debian Unix on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy with the Desktop, so far -- can't say much about the rest...
Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2024
Well, i bought this for the Desktop itself -- I didn't have any issues with setting this up, pretty much good experience right out of the box in terms of it working, setting up Windows -- but, right off the bat, the mouse that was included didn't work well at all, so much so that going thru the install would've been very difficult. Luckily, I still have an existing mouse, so I'm using that. After having this computer for a little over a week, I can tell the keyboard that came with it is poor quality -- already issues with sticking keys, keys not registering, very poor feel to it -- so, i'll be switching that out soon.
Again, I bought it for the computer itself, which came ready to go, clean, no aesthetic issues, and a week in, works like a charm. It was worth the money for that, but if i could've choosen w/o the mouse & keys, for less $$$, given what I know now, I would've. Now i just got more electronic garbage to do away with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased - Very nice system

I haven't had the best luck with refurbished machines, so I was, of course, hesitant to try again. But the specifications of this machine and the price made it worth the risk. Physically, the system is in great shape. I appreciate the attention to detail in the refurbishing process, as the computer arrived in near-perfect condition, free of any noticeable signs of wear.

As a technology consultant who works with computers daily, I am thoroughly impressed with this refurbished system. The specifications are excellent for the price, making it a great value for both professionals and casual users alike. The performance is smooth and reliable, and it has been running benchmark tests non-stop for the past 32 hours without a problem.

The system comes with Windows 10 installed which is fine. There's really no need right now to upgrade to Windows 11 since Microsoft will continue supporting Windows 10 through October of 2025.

The processor is an i7-4790 which is a 4th generation unit, but the performance is excellent. And with 32 GB of RAM (most new systems come with 8 GB and some of the newer ones will have 16 GB), this system has enough headroom to handle most tasks with ease. I wouldn't consider it a gaming system, per se', since it doesn't have a high-performance video card. But for everything else, this system is absolutely worth the price.
