What’s a guy to do?
After ten years serving my country, it’s time for me to head home. Except I’m sure as hell not going to my hometown, that’s where my ex lives, and I lost patience for her drama a long time ago. Instead, I head to Saddle Creek, TX, a place my army buddy always described as the perfect place to live. Sure enough, the town seems like the perfect town to put down roots, but it’s the vivacious and curvy local artist I really want to sink into.

What’s a girl to do?
I may be a little too weird and rebellious for a lot of folks my small town, but what can I say? This is home. Besides, the house I inherited from my grandmother has the perfect sculpting studio. Granted the house needs a lot of work, I may be handy with an arc welder but I’ve got no skills with a hammer. I’m not looking for the perfect guy, just the perfect handyman. Still, when I hire Jack, I find myself wishing he’d get a little handsy with me.

    “I licked it, so it’s mine.” Lucy took one look at Jack and wanted more. I loved this story of two loners finding eachother. Both have baggage but they come together beautifully. It was such a sweet moment with the two talking about HIS virginity and the reason behind it. ????

    “Whoa. Dirty talking virgin? Yes, please.” I loved this fast-paced read and will be looking forward to more of the Dog Tag books!

    I read the original version of this book a while ago and when I saw there was an update to it that added it into the Saddle Creek universe I jumped at the chance to read it again.
    It's such a great story of love, humor, and heat for Jack and Lucy and I love that they're now tied to the Whitmore's!.

    Loved the story and the connection to the rest of saddle creek locations, but was confused about the crossover of Shelby as I didn’t remember her parents being killed in her story that I read last year, overall love every one of your saddle creek tales!

    Chemistry filled short story...
    This was a really good quick read! I loved Jack and Lucy. From the start you can feel the attraction. I loved how bold Lucy was and that she went after what she wanted. This story flowed really well too, it was short, but doesn't feel like you're missing out. Loved it!!.

    So this was a revamped version of Jack and Lucy's story. Having read the original there were moments of deja vu, but parts still felt fresh. It was read years ago. While enjoyable, at times the old and new felt fragmented. I also kept waiting for Dane (the premise of dog tags is that his dog sanctuary will bring other vets to Saddlecreek), and while he finally has his cameo, I wish the dog sanctuary and his love could have been more present in this revamped story. I also felt that in revamping Jack of Hearts, it did not feel like a launch of a new chapter in the Saddlecreek universe. I will note that I remember the original fondly and perhaps my review is more critical because of this. Granted in not having the dog sanctuary more present in this launch, it was a missed opportunity to really introduce this next chapter for Saddlecreek.

    What a sweet, adorable insta love story. Jack and Lucy both have some issues to work out, but their will triumph all. Kat Baxter is such a great author! I want to move to Saddle Creek now.
