I received my miBook just fine; but when I opened my package the price on the MiBook was stickered at $10.00, don't know what that was about, I paid $33.00 with tax.

I bought the MiBook for Christmas and it worked OK for 3 weeks and then stopped recognizing the SD cards.
Attempts to contact Photoco customer service failed. No reply to email and they don't answer the phone.
This is a very dicey product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice but limited in function
Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2010
I got this unit at a bargain price [~US $50] and I am happy with that. It works well as a digital picture frame with audio. For the price I paid I would say it is as good as other similar frames. I have not tried adding my own videos yet but I suspect it will play them alright since the recipe books clips are OK.

The miBook books are cute and the video clips play well - recipes are easy and the way they are presented is smart. They first show you the list of ingredients, and then step by step directions which show you what to do - there is a pause at the end of each segment so you can catch up with chopping veggies or turning on the stove or whatever... It works well for what it is.

I was hoping this would work as an eReader of sorts. It can display files in a variety of formats, but there is no bookmark function so if you are reading a long book for example, and you stop for the night on page 20, you would have to press forward 20 times to get back to the same spot... which is kind of a bad flaw if you have files of any length. Overall I am happy with it but it is sad they didn't add a book mark feature or this would be an excellent eReader on a budget.

This is not an HDTV or even and android tablet screen. It is not very bright and the resolution may not be what you are use to, but it works for what I wanted witch is digital signage at craft shows with no electricity available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Portable Multimeda on the cheap
Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2010
I was able to get my miBook player and 2 cookbooks for $30 and I am beyond thrilled my purchase. I originally purchased this device to check out its multimedia capabilities. I am looking for a low, low cost, solid state replacement to the portable DVD player the kids. I'm tired of skipping and scratched disks. This device will work for that; however, it isn't durable enough to hand over to the kids. I fear one drop would be the end of this player. It really is best suited for tabletop placement.

I had no intention of using it for the included cookbooks or any of the other books offered on this platform. I was just going to look at the videos to determine the best video format and resolution that will display. That idea didn't last long. The recipes are really easy to make and are in a DivX ffmpeg format that can play on a PC. Each step is a separate video file in the recipe directory. Great for getting my kids involved in the kitchen. They can watch the video, perform that step and press play for the next step. I have already ordered more cook books.

The player has a simple, easy interface. The quality of the device is on par with other inexpensive electronics. The only two gripes I have are the SD (not SDHC) slot doesn't let the SD card fully insert. When a card is in, it still sticks out a quarter of an inch. This could very easily snag on something and damage the SD slot or card. Second, the buttons on the front are not very responsive; I have to push them very hard. The remote works just fine though. I like the plastic shrink wrap on the remote, easy clean up and lets you have access to replace the battery without removal.

Allow me to repeat, I am beyond thrilled with my purchase, and I ended up really using it as a video cookbook.

1.0 out of 5 stars Photoco cooking up the same old garbage!!!
Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2009
Well for once they have a decent concept but instead of spending the time and energy to develop the idea and place it in a high quality device they repurposed their previously unsuccessful PhotoShare. (Take a look at the reviews on that device) The cheap and easily breakable Photoshare is now the MiBook. Perhaps they have a series on how to do business? or maybe a series on customer service?
Save yourself the fustration and don't buy the MiBook!
Here is a better suggestion, find a portable SD viewer product that has a history of quality & customer service, buy some of the instructional videos or better yet, go to [...] and watch some of the same videos for free.

this product is not bad i do think there is some work that needs to be done. the sound is very soft. there is a speaker jack but it is on the bottom so it is of no use. i would recommend waiting for the next generation.
