Worth every penny!

My 5yr old & 3yr old love this program (though the 3yr old has a harder time manipulating the tools). THey both get computer time at the school they go to, so I decided to look into computer programs for home. I based my search on what the two were using when they were given the opportunity to do computers. My 5yr old is very into creative things; she loves drawing, painting, cutting, glueing, so this program really REALLY holds her interest. It's great; full of all kinds of ways to create. It also has printable projects. I am so thrilled with this software. You install it and you don't need to keep the disk in the drive to use the program (as we do have to with the one Reader Rabbit software we have). The sound effects are a lot of fun too. All the creations are printable, though we haven't printed any. I can't think of any cons regarding this product outside of the fights between my kids as to how long of a turn one of them is getting. Used in moderation, of course, it's a wonderful tool to teach creativity and use of the computer. I highly recommend it.

First off - I am so sick of people lowering ratings of software on Amazon because it isn't MAC compatible. Should of thought of that before you purchased a MAC. The software (which is what we are reviewing and rating) is excellent and could keep anyone from the age of 3-80 happy. There is a ton of painting, coloring, scrapbooking, tracing, learning to draw, etc.. I find myself coloring in pictures after my daughter is done, it truly is a lot of fun. It shouldn't take the place of hands on arts and crafts but it is a great alternative for the days you can't take all the paper, paints, glue etc.. out. If you do check all the reviews, you will find the only negative reviews for this software are MAC users complaining. I would check other software reviews for the same MAC complainers - they tend to 1 or 2 star software reviews if they are unable to use it. Have fun creating!

Horrible Customer service!!

We cannot download the software into our computer. According to the information that came with it, for Technical Support we need to go to the support website - we did. It gave us 2 options, find info on our problem in the "forum", or send them a message. I couldn't find problem in the forum, so I sent a message. We never recieved a reply (it asked for both my e-mail & phone number). After a few weeks, I tried to call the customer service number to complain about the technical support, and I get a message saying I will probably be holding for 30 minutes! I did not hold that long. I have tried to send another message, but now I cannot find where I sent the first message. I don't know if they got rid of that option, or I just can't find it again. We were able to successfully download it on my husband's work laptop, but he is rarely able to bring that home, so we have only only used the software one time. Bottom line is my 8 year old wanted this very badly (has it at her school), and paid for it with her own birthay money several months ago, and cannot even use it!

I don't consider this an Amazon problem - love Amazon. But I recommend staying away from anything made be Encore!!

Plain crayons and paper are much better than KP

When a program is listed as being for the Mac, it should work properly on the Mac. I expected it to follow the conventions of the Mac, but it appears to be a PC version that was jerry rigged to work on the Mac. Maybe PC users are used to the inconsistant behavior. I also use a PC and find it annoying that many of the programs including major applications do not adhere to the conventions of the interface.

I bought KP for my grandson who will attempt to use it on a PC so I hope it works a bit better there.

I bought the very first version years ago which, if I remember correctly, was written for the Mac and not the PC. I expected this version to be a significant improvement, but think that it has gone downhill instead. I seem to remember that the original text tool was "stamp" oriented and is now keyboard oriented which is less friendly for young children.

I was very dissapointed in the operation which is very slow and clunky. The features are OK, but not great. I do not reccomend it based as much on features as on the "Mac" issues.

*Update*

I have since tried KP on a PC and it has much, much better response. On the Mac when you select a tool, you wait and wait, while on the PC it is almost instantaneous. I did find it entertaining on the PC and spent a couple hours with my grandson playing until my lap got tired.

So I would probably upgrade my rating to 3 or 4 stars but only if you have a PC.

We surely didn't get the version my daughter uses in PreK. I will certainly have to find out which one they use, because this isn't it. This version is... well, ok at best. We downloaded a free program on the web called Tux Paint, and my daughter actually prefers that one still!? There is just not a lot going on with this program... they should have knocked $5.00 off the price.
