There is little to say about this masterpiece with hours and hours of fun for both and competitive players, beautiful graphics and a ton of characters, not just from Nintendo. It arrived very quickly and in perfect condition.

Thr game was amazing with all the characters and the story mode. My son played this game once and now he is on the game the entire game. The quality and size of the game was too good to be true. The multi-player option was good and all the extra features.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Game, Best Smash Bros Yet!
Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2018
Definitely my favorite Smash Bros entry of the entire series. One could even say it's the "Ultimate" version of the game. It can be played for hours with friends and I've even enjoyed playing on my own, though that isn't quite as fun as playing with a group of friends and family.

I will admit it can be a confusing game to jump right in to if you've never played a Smash Bros game before. However, it can be enjoyed by little kids and adults alike. Make sure to watch the "How to Play" video after the intro to the game to get a basic idea of how the game works. These games have a pretty unique take on the fighting game genre, so I'll leave a basic summary below.

The goal is to knock your opponents off the edge of the screen to reduce their lives. As you hit your opponent their percentage goes up. The higher that percentage is, the farther they will fly away when attacked. When a character is knocked out, they come back at 0% and continue battling until time runs out or they run out of stock/lives.

Each character (there are 74!) has different kinds of moves, strengths, and weaknesses. There are multiple items, modes, and stages/levels in the game. The best way to learn it all is just to play. You'll quickly find characters you enjoy playing as and develop a fighting style that's all your own.

I realize I haven't said much about the game yet, but there is so much going for it that it's hard to pick things out. The music, sheer number of stages and characters, and overall polish to the game is astounding. In terms of changes between previous versions of the game, some of my favorite things are:

1) The physics of the game are the best so far. Its crisp, fast paced, and not as floaty as Brawl. Knocking people away, trying to get back to the stage, and performing combos just feels so fluid.
2) Setting custom rulesets. I have my default 3 stock no items for 1 on 1 or true skill matches. I have a 3 stock all items high and smash meter on for the free for all party play. You can set the rules up whatever way you like and set a preset which makes getting in to play that much faster.
3) Starting with the original 8 characters and unlocking all the new ones is actually really fun for me and never felt like a chore. Anyone complaining about this part must not remember what it was like to get Mewtwo (20 hours of vs matches) or Game and Watch (1000 vs matches) in Melee or Wolf in Brawl (450 matches). In this mode you get the chance to beat and unlock a challenger every 10 minutes of VS play, or even quicker if you reset the switch after every match. You also face a challenger every time you finish classic mode, or throughout the new Spirits mode in World of Light. It really is fun to watch the roster grow, and doesn't really feel all that grindy unless you are in a huge rush to unlock every one. If there is a character you really want, look up the charts that show you who unlocks who in Classic mode and you can have the character you want within 30 minutes easy.
4) Slow-mo on knockout hits, extra damage in 1v1, the overlaid out of bounds box when someone went flying, and the smoke trailing characters matching their color are all huge quality of life improvements.
5) Everything? I could go on and on. I love this game. Within a night of playing it was without a doubt my favorite game of the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smash & Grab

Arguably, sometimes when it comes to gems for the Nintendo Switch, I sometimes head backwards & give them a chance rather than playing them at the moment. Arguably, I have been more of a light fan of the Super Smash Brothers series than a hard core one. I have played prior Super Smash Brothers games with the arcade fighting fun against the great foes like Master Hand & more updated characters like Ganondorf & Mega Man. Arguably, trying to head back into the franchise is definitely a challenge, but had some things that worked well, where others could've worked better. After finally getting to play Super Smash Brothers: Ultimate, I can finally say this is one of the best multiplayer games to master.

Super Smash Brothers: Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch is one of the best multiplayer experiences you can get, right behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. You have a lengthy amount of content here, where you match & play against as many as 80 characters like Sonic The Hedgehog, Kirby, Luigi, Mario & Wario. This game has a lot of great matches that you can play & stages that celebrate video games' past like Green Hill Zone from Sonic The Hedgehog, the Metroid underworld, where you're battling with Mother Brain in the background. There are many different multiplayer fights with 100 smash battle & custom traditional fighting arcade modes for each character in the arcade mode.

But where the game does shine, but truthfully shines too bright is the World Of Light adventure mode. Where you start as Kirby & he has to travel to unlock multiple fighters as you play the game to try & challenge the dark & light worlds where he can match against classic Smash Brothers foes like Crazy Hand, Giga Bowser & forgotten Nintendo enemies like Mark from the Kirby franchise & Dracula from the Castlevania franchise. The story feels kind of lightweight, where the content is good. I have found the game is fun, but could've been simplified in the end. Sometimes, navigating through the spirit trails can be frustrating & feels more like a exhaustion rather than a strength. But for easier gamers, you can simply tone down the difficulty to make your run though a bit easier. Graphically, the game looks great & has strong music to enjoy, but the control is easy to maintain, but can simply vary during challenges you play within the adventure mode. Still, multiplayer makes the control customizable & easier to maintain.

There are a few disadvantages with the game though. One of them happens to be the Word Of Light. The world looks great, but it doesn't feel as cinematic as prior Super Smash Brothers titles. I actually thought the subspace embessary from Super Smash Brothers: Brawl was a bit more engaging & compelling to play. Another disadvantage is in the level changer where you add fog, swap gravity & add partner foes to help win matches is honestly tedious & can change the matches drastically. When I found out that the stage made a flip upside down to the point that I had to perform the fight in a mirror style by making my controller go left, so I could make the fighter head right to where I could win a match. Arguably, it was very exhausting & caused me to feel drained in the end.

Whether you have played Super Smash Brothers in the past, or other fighting games like Street Fighter V, there is a lot to play & have fun with while playing Super Smash Brothers: Ultimate. It is a great game, but more of a circus for excitement with matches with friends & contests. The single player adventure mode is a challenge that does work, but can quite easily drive you down rather than lift you up overall. Still, it is a step up from the failure of the Smash Brothers game on Wii U. So get yourself revved up out of your corner & fight.
