Lady Georgie and her honorable husband, Darcy are preparing for big changes at the Eynsleigh estate. Their firstborn is due within weeks, and they are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their Parisian chef to up the standard of culinary offerings served at the house. A dinner party is planned, Georgie's first. Will the chef live up to his talents? Or will this inaugural dinner be not-so-bon?

The chef arrives, his proper attire acquired, and faithful servant and sometime cook, Queenie's ruffled feathers are smoothed. When one of the guests asks to borrow Georgie's chef for an upcoming event, she agrees, although somewhat reluctantly. She doesn't want her newly found chef whisked away to the gothic author's kitchen. He's known for his fabulous garden, which includes poisonous plants of all varieties. The evening of his event is a success, until a few of the guests take deathly ill. When one dies of poisoning, suspicion falls on Georgie's new chef. Will she and Darcy solve who might have poisoned the pudding?

Author Bowen once again delights fan of her A Royal Spyness Mystery series with this clever whodunnit. The characters are a delight and the run-up to Georgie's delivery has everyone on pins and needles. An entertaining story, sure to delight cozy mystery fans!

A new chapter in Georgie and Darcy's lives. They're awaiting their first child, their new chef is being accused of murder and the house is full of people. This may not have been as exciting and adventurous as some books in this series, but the murder is a complex mystery. The characters are so much fun. I found myself laughing quite a bit. I was also interested in how Georgie and Darcy have grown in their relationship.

All in all another very enjoyable book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lady Georgiana At Her Best

This is a corking good read. Ms. Bowen keeps her story moving, the characters well drawn, and the plot very clever. There is no Mrs. Simpson to spice up the spite. Instead, we have an appearance by Agatha Christie, an wonderful addition who helps Lady Georgiana focus her thinking. A plot device does come from one of Mrs. Christie’s mysteries but Ms. Bowen handles it in a clever manner by adding her own twist. Time wise the “Royal Spyness” series is close to World War II. Will the skies darken over the O’Mara family? Golly, I’m already looking forward to the next book!

I have enjoyed this series. It’s a fun read and takes you back to a different time where it’s fun to remember what it’s like without cell phones, 24 hr news coverage and social media craziness!!
The mystery is interesting with a few red herrings, and it was fun to see Agatha Christie and Mr & Mrs Lawrence Olivier make an appearance! I did figure out the murderer fairly early on, but it was still an enjoyable read to get to the solution.
My only negative is Queenie!! I can’t manage to enjoy her inclusion in this series at all. She is so obnoxious. Who would (or should) put up with her attitude?? (I think I enjoyed the previous book so much because she wasn’t in it!!)
Otherwise a great series.

As most of these cozy mysteries go it was a good one. Like the characters and the plot was different but moved along. Waiting for the next one. Bet it will be in Irland.
