5.0 out of 5 stars Great scope, feels cheap but works fantastically. Just needs semi-careful handling.

I was a bit weary when taking it out of the box--it feels cheap. Cheap plastic, metal, etc. I can't speak for longevity, so hopefully it lasts me a while.

But it works surprisingly well. HDMI output is fantastic, and can work as a web cam. They also have propriety software. I couldn't get it to work, but I received a support response very quickly that solved the problem. However, if they put the latest drivers on their website I wouldn't have had to reach out to support. It's possible I just didn't see where that download was. Either way, their support was fantastic.

This seems like the "cheap" option, but it's surprisingly useful. It can record video, take screenshots, and these are exportable via USB or you can pop in a microSD card (also included).

Uses mini hdmi to hdmi for video output, and it also includes an HDMI cable.

I wish it would have included a downwards facing right angle HDMI (it includes two right angle usb cables--one for power/lights, the other for PC connection) but that's the only piece of kit that I thought was lacking.

The instructions are clear, but there are a few details missing.

As for the microscope operation it's decent. Doesn't feel professional grade, but it functions almost as well--and it works for checking out tiny issues on circuit boards. I was able to fix a few things I couldn't before, so that's exciting.

It's cheapness does, unfortunately, come into play for some aspects. It's coarse adjustment is rough--it's just two collars, one locks and the other serves as a sort of stop so you can lock it where you want. Its fine adjustment is smooth and works predictably, however--and that's really the most important one.

There is a digital zoom that is also pretty good.

I don't like the fact that not all of the functionality on the unit is able to be adjusted for with just the controls on the display itself. Instead, you have to use the remote to access some functions and menus you can't otherwise.

That means that losing the remote bricks some of the device's functionality.

the 7 inch screen is clear, and good enough. HDMI and USB output is a plus, though outputting with USB puts a bit black box on the device's screen, almost forcing you to use the computer monitor. Outputting in HDMI doesn't have this problem, and I ended up using a capture card to grab clean HDMI output while using the scope's display without the USB black box obstruction.

Overall, I'd recommend it as an affordable option--and it functions as well as some of the ~$400 dollar scopes I've used. I'm honestly impressed with its functionality. It does, however, FEEL cheap. And I don't know how long some of these parts are for.

I also didn't use it for any at home biology observing--even though it comes with a light box/glass slide holder (it also comes with spring-tension slide clips for stereoscopic type viewing). I didn't use the light box or check out the slides, but it's really cool that they included it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeded my expectations. Bright, sharp and very good resolution.

I was pleasantly surprised on how good this microscope is. The microscope is very portable, easy to put together and produces a very good image. It is primarily used as a soldering station and for this purpose it absolutely does every thing perfectly.

The standout features are image resolution, versatility, portability, brightness, sturdiness and value.

Highly recommend this microscope.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for

4 stars, dropping one because I haven't figured out how to get their app on my windows computer. I can find it online, but can't get it to download. If I get that working, and it's decent, I'll come back with star #5.
I've tried a couple of the $50-$100 USB microscopes. Most of them have low picture resolution, lousy stands, limited magnification range. . . I got the AD246S-M on sale, and although the price was about double the cheaper scopes, its performance is much more than twice as good. the 3 lenses give a great range of magnification, with good viewing distance on the lower mag. One can actually use the scope to do close-up work with tweezers, soldering iron, etc. A different lens allows high magnification for looking at naturey things like insect wings and cross sections of pine needles (some samples of which are included). The scope has both top and bottom light sources, and the top lights can be angled so as to make the lighting oblique, and not so prone to specular reflection from the item being viewed.
The screen is great. I read reviews saying that it's fragile, and that might be, so I'm careful with it. But it has good brightness and shows the output of the scope very nicely. I was concerned that the output would be somehow "cheap" looking, but I was wrong. And the photos that the system takes and stores are quite nice for the price. The display can connect to a laptop or other computer to retrieve the photos. I have done that and it works. There's also a mini HDMI connector that allows the screen content to be displayed on a big screen TV with a regular HDMI input. The unit does video in addition to photos, and there are some addition settings that can be used to optimize the photo and video output. Not a lot, but it's miles ahead of anything I've seen on cheaper units. And there's a remote that's helpful with navigating the settings, the stand is very well made. . . I love this thing. Just what I was hoping for, and if you get it on sale, it's a steal.

5.0 out of 5 stars High value for digital microscope. Most likely best value in this price range.

This scope has high-quality optics. The interchangeable lenses are useful. If you are looking at relatively flat objects, even the highest mag lens is good. The images shown are of the "0" in a penny ("2021") and the dots are pigments on a credit card. The display and microscope are plastic but well-made. It has metal thread inserts where it counts. The focus is smoother than most cheap microscopes. It has an adjustable metal stand that is a good value. At high magnification, the stand is not very steady but OK. It works with the Windows camera app as well as the "S-eye" program that you can download from the internet. With the PC connected, you can only get 1920X1080, but it is still decent for most situations. You can save higher resolution pictures on the included memory card and access them from the PC when you reboot it as a "memory device".
