Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2017
I just got "most" of it installed ('17 Nissan Frontier) - took me about a few hours so far since I took my time to do it right. I did spend about an hour trying to troubleshoot an issue with my installation. The amp LED kept switch from blue (running ok) to red (problem) and sometimes a flickering red when my factory head unit was > 10 volume. I was testing the DC turn on since I was trying to cut a step and not have to run a remote wire. The symptoms turned out to be the remote! I hooked up the blue remote to a wire lead to the fuse tap into the heated seats fuse which I don't have so it was a good slot to choose especially since it turns on with the ignition. Flipped the switch from DC turn on to the remote 12v and works just like any other amp. No more issues... It's hot out so I'm taking a break and will need to hide the remote wire.

# Pros
- Great additions to crew cab truck with factory system. It won't blast the vehicle but it will provide the missing low end for stock systems. I've installed so many different systems in the past - JL 2x 12", rockfords 2x 10", kicker solo barics 2x 10" and 2x 12" etc...
- Arrived looking brand new and packaged well.
- Responsive clean bass. Not sloppy sounding at all. Sounds amazing paired to my factory 6 speaker stereo system.

# Cons
- DC turn on failed to work and it reported symptoms of low power or bad ground. This was my first time trying DC turn on and based on my experience will never let that feature fool me again. This was not mentioned in the troubleshooting section of the manual. Apparently some speakers need to produce a specific voltage in order for this to work... Always run the remote - it's more reliable...
- Took a lot of effort to install something that is suppose to be more "plug and play". I blame the marketing making it sound easy however it's the same install as any other system just smaller wires.
- Length of the remote wire is way too short. It's almost as short as the ground... why?!
- Design flaw of the remote / dc turn on switch. When it's on DC turn on - the polarity changes and the power becomes a line to turn on other amplifiers via remote. When it's on remote, it's receiving power to signal the amp to turn on. I can see fuses getting blown due to this switch. Be careful.

# Conclusion
It's a great system for the refurbish price of $150 and I wouldn't have spent any more especially knowing the DC turn on is either defective or just doesn't work as designed. I wouldn't spend the current $220 and absolutely not at the > $300 price tag. I had sweat, blood, and tears installing this thing. I can see the install being much easier with a car since most cars have the rear deck where tapping those wires might be easier however a crew cab truck - you will need to remove the interior cover to the pillars. Same thing will apply for most SUVs.

Having experienced with more high-end and high-powered systems (> 2k watts) - I feel like I should have just installed a custom box running the shallow 10" kicker instead. This is only for those who want to enhance a factory system since if you want something more, you will be better off running more serious cables. This is the smallest woofer I've installed and I'm happy with the output.

# Update 2017-08-16
I'm pretty sure the woofer is now broken in and it sounds fantastic. I had to come back and bumped it up (no pun intended) from 4 stars to 5 since I really like this product and for the refurbished price of $150 - it's one of the best bargains I've experienced this year. I never got to demo this product before I purchased it and I do not regret buying it. I blindly purchased this without hearing it because it's by Kicker and I've never had a bad experience with any of their products in the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound and Quality!
Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2024
I installed this Kicker HS8 in my 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid. It's a really simple install for the most part. I choose this sub specifically for the "remote on" feature utilizing the speaker wires. Although that feature did not work for me in my specific truck, I was able to run a 12v+ remote on wire to the passenger foot well area pretty easily. This sub adds the little bit of bass I was wanting to add to the factory stereo system. Fits perfectly being the rear seat with a little relocation of the spare tire jack and tools. Great Sub at a great price!!!

Bought this for my '87 Mercury Colony Park. It fits underneath the front passenger seat no problem. Wired up easy enough. Bass is really good. It's not something I'd feel comfortable blasting but, it's fine for day to day music listening. It can get loud but, don't expect it to rattle you or shake deep in your chest, leave bass boost at 0, crossover at 120Hz and turn the gain all the way, from there you can adjust from your stereo for how much bass you need, you now know that you'll be getting all the power out of the sub with a setup like that. One hiccup was the remote turn on wire was about as long as the chassis ground wire (maybe 12" long). I bought a sub wiring kit in case I needed to extend any wiring. Only the remote wire was needed. I personally extended the ground wire to the battery with the 12v power wire to avoid ground problems. To get the audio signal wired, you must get the Kicker KISL bare wire to RCA cable (Photo attached) It's silly that's not included because you cannot use this sub otherwise. Power cable was long enough to reach from the passenger seat, along the lower footwell, along the dash, out a grommet on the drivers side, back down the firewall, down the quarter panel to the battery on the passenger side.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kicker powered sub

I installed this in my wife’s Jeep Wrangler. It sounds very good for such a small space and footprint. It is not competition level by any stretch but it gives a good solid bass to match the highs and mods of the aftermarket speakers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Why no low level input?
Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2024
When I purchased this after much deliberation I didn't notice you have to buy kind of a reverse converter for the rca low level since the sub only has high level input. I already had an amp kit run so it was kind of inconvenient to have to run more signal lines to the sub location. Sound quality is okay, but if I had paid full price I would have returned it and gone with the 10"version

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple clean install
Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2024
I do NOT like big boxes that take up space and compromise the interior room of any vehicle. When I judged car stereo shows 30 years ago a hidden system would score higher than a visible one ; ). This is a small clean compact way to go. I bought a used Malibu for my 70 mi/day commute. I found a power lead and RCA cable in the trunk so I bought this. Other than the hi-lo input issues I have with Kicker, this is a great little rig. That's why I gave the install 3/5 stars.

I really appreciate the renewed (I think someone RETURNED it) price. I have the 10" version in my Jeep Wrangler that is fantastic under the passenger seat. This one is currently behind the rear seat and adds a little something but not crazy. I might move it under the passenger seat, I don't know. It's much better than the 8" Kenwood (which is borderline lame). No you won't win any contests, but it should be about the MUSIC and not just the delivery gear. If you have a small car, buy this and enjoy.
