Kenmore did come out but said the buttons were only there to "reference" how to use the front panel. so, if you want a dishwasher that needs at least several steps just to get it washing then fine. but the front panel isn't backlit, you must find and push the POWER button to see anything. for me, it's too much to do all the time just to wash. you can program for a favorite wash, but three buttons will still need to be pushed to operate it. myself, I would never have bought it knowing this was the case.....but that's just my opinion.
