About this item

Drew Marshall is the epitome of a walking nightmare.
Deranged. Psychotic. Immoral.
After breaking my heart and publicly humiliating me, I vow to forget his existence.
He has other plans, though, and vows to make certain I don’t.
The only one I can turn to for help is a man I thought to be my enemy.
Drew’s best friend Sebastian who claims to be my brother.
He promises me security and protection. But no one can protect me from Drew.
The faster I run, the more he chases.
The harder I struggle, the tighter his grip becomes.
My enemy. My stalker. My villain.
It’s wrong, but I can’t stop myself from craving his rough touch, filthy words, and the dark promise of pleasure he gives me. They say the truth will set you free, but ours didn't do that. It locked us inside the cage and tossed away the key.

**This is book 2 in the Oakmount Elite series and is NOT a standalone. This must be read after The Wallflower. Please be sure to check the author note at the start of the book if you have triggers. This book contains dark subject matter, sexual situations, and questionable morals.**

This is the second book in a two book series. The first being “The Wallflower”. I HIGHLY suggest you read that one first to get the perfect reading experience.
This picks up from a “WOW” of a cliffhanger from book one. I mean, the kind of ending you say to yourself, “I did not see that one coming”!
This story revolves around a set of College students, their devient lives and even worse parents..then sweet, innocent Mabel (Bel). Bel is our MFC. And Drew is our “divient”, handsome MMC. He’s a broken soul. Having an abusive father all these years both harshly physical and mental. A father who hurts those Drew loves to force him to do his father’s will.
Yes, these two main character came together in the first book with realizations of feeling for each other. Understood on Bel’s side, but confusing on Drew’s side. But what’s to come in this second book?
Secrets came out about Bel and a new found family. She finds out why her mother has kept her existence a secret. And a deep tragedy befalls her.
This is a fantastic book with characters that makes you wish you were a psychologist. Because you can deffinatly see how each of their lives were affected with what happens to them. So much is going on this book.
J L Beck is an awesome writer that brings you in personally with her characters. You come to know them, to love, hate and feel sorry for them..and finally, to rejoice with them. How does Beck do that? She’s so talented as an author and I have never been disappointed in her writing skills or her ability to tell a gripping, sometimes agonizing story.
Oh..and a huge surprise in the end!
This is a very dark, explicit book, dealing with very adult situations. I would suggest only adults to read.????????????????????????

Drew is dark, obsessive and possessive. Everything you like in a bad boy. Bel is stronger in this book. She doesn't immediately take Drew back after all of the stuff he put her through. I really enjoyed their slight dynamic change in this book. Drew still gets what he wants but he does try to be a better man for Bel. I am looking forward to the other characters of The Mill stories, Sebastian, Aeries, and Lee.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very spicy story worthy of re-reading!

Maybel Jacobs felt nothing but everything all at the same time. The grief, heartbreak, and loss all hitting her at once. After losing everyone close to her, all seems to be lost, until she reconnects with her brother, Sebastian. The same Sebastian who is supposedly best friends with Bel’s psycho lover, Drew. When Drew keeps pushing boundaries to get back into Bel’s life and good graces, can she trust him enough to let him in again without getting hurt?

Drew Marshall is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and doesn’t care what he has to do to get close to Bel again. She is his, end of story. When Drew’s dad sets some plans in motion, can Drew get Bel to trust him again in order to save them both from destruction or is history set to repeat itself?

Wow. I can’t even begin to describe the way my jaw dropped at some of these secrets and plots twists. They were so good and unexpected. It’s no secret that Drew and Maybel will get their HEA, but how they get there is the best part of them all. Want to know? You gotta read their story to find out. Some tropes include: secret society, enemies to lovers (kind of), primal play, and more. Some TWs included are: blood play, mention of cancer, mention of murder and more. Author has a full list of TWs in the front of the book so please check that and take care of yourself.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little drawn out

While I enjoyed reading this bully romance, I felt like it could have been a little shorter and tighter, it felt drawn out to get a higher word count to me. I am not a fan of beating around the bush to get answers, which the end of this book did not give. I hate having to sign up to someone's link for an epilogue. So was this a cliff hanger? A little bit, because no one's parentage was explained. A dull ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book and this duet!! Don’t miss it!!

I was so excited to get my hands on this book!!! I had to see what happened with Maybel and Drew. Their story is heartbreaking and tragic. I enjoy JL Beck’s writing style; she is gritty, creates deliciously dark worlds and morally grey MMC’s and FMC’s that have a steel backbone. This is a dark bully romance and touches on dark themes and topics. It’s also part of a duet and needs to be read in order. I so enjoyed the twists and turns in this book. The suspense kept me turning the pages and the spice was off the hook society. I devoured this book in one night just so I could see what would happen next.

Maybel has blossomed and is guarded with her heart. She is stronger, determined and dealing with a lot of changes. I loved her attitude and stubbornness she developed in this book. Drew was just as OTT possessive, a total Alpha and protective of Maybel. I loved his determination throughout this whole book. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!!!.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I loved the characters chemistry even if it was maybe a trigger for some readers. I usually enjoy a good book with lots of steamy scenes and a plot twist with a little suspense. I don’t remember what other books I have read by this author but I will be reading more of her books next.

I waited so impatiently for the conclusion of Drew and Bel’s story. At the end of book 1 I was out of my mind with questions and could not wait to see where book 2 took us with these characters and this storyline. Drew is unquestionably unhinged and we get to see a completely new side of Bel as she navigates through all the new secrets and information thrown at her. The ending of this book also leaves you ????????. I just love this world, give me all the morally pitch black st@lkers who will hunt me down when I’m being a brat. ????????‍♀️ cannot WAIT for Sebastian’s POV. 4.75/5 stars. ONLY because it was a little long for me, I feel like the majority of the meat happened in the last 20% and just didn’t have to be 500 pages. BUT still very worth the read.
