They are mesh metal racks, and expertly packaged. The box includes the frame, racks, screws, rubber feet, and the screwdriver. The instructions are clear and the steps are numbered for easy assembly. It's larger than I imagined but that's fine because I'm going to need all 5 shelves. Yes, I'm trying to get more organized. As an added bonus, the style matches my two pen holders. And my trashcan.
FYI: the frame is one-piece, hinged, and without any sharp edges. The "Handles" are smooth and just wide enough, which is also very cool. All-in-all, a surprisingly excellent piece. (Not to be rude, but the "Made in China" was a bit scary. Until I opened it up.)
