About this item

Hand-Selected Timothy Hay - We hand-pack each box in small batches to ensure only the highest quality 100% US-grown 2nd cut Timothy hay arrives at your door. 2nd cut Timothy hay is a perfect balance of stem, seed head , and leaf to provide the rough fiber needed for normal wear to healthy teeth and yummy features with a fresh smell to keep them coming back for more.
Earth-Friendly Packaging - As small animal owners, we know the importance of packing delicious snacks in safe ways for our small animal companions. No compression packing here that damages stem and leaf integrity, each package is shipped in a high-strength corrugated box for easy storage (and fun digging!).
Minimally Handled & Delivered Fresh - Make it easy to provide exactly what your little friend needs with regular shipments of fresh from the farm hay to wear down growing teeth and protect digestive health. Each delivery of premium Timothy hay for rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas includes a great mix of protein, fiber and fat to keep them healthy. Your small pet may not thank you with words, but happy oinks and binkies will make you feel like the pet owner of the year.
Great for Bedding - In addition to being a crucial part of many small pet diets, Timothy hay also makes cozy bedding for hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, ferrets and more. Since most of us aren’t up for doing laundry with tiny duvets, hay makes a wonderful, fresh smelling alternative that they will love to snuggle into.
100% Satisfaction Guarantee! - For you and your pets. We know pets can be picky. If your bunny (or piggy or chinny) stomps and turns up her nose, you can still rest easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars My bunny loves this hay!!

The hay is fresh and beautiful. It smells like hay that is freshly cut and dried. The texture is perfect and not crunched up. It's softer because it is fresher and my bunny lives the tadte. I had been using a different brand, but bunny wasn't excited about it
eating it. After trying several brands, this one is perfect. I love that it comes in a nice sturdy box too. Makes it easy to store. The smallest box has lasted me two months, but still smells yummy. Will definitely purchase again.

5.0 out of 5 stars For my bunny, Second Cutting is the way to go!

When I first got my bunny as a baby I was feeding him alfalfa hay along with other veggies and a few pellets - he was already eating regular food. The thing with the alfalfa hay is that he was picking out the softer stuff and leaving behind the "sticks", so when it came time to invest in hay my first purchase from SPS was 3rd cutting because it is "softer" - so I bought the 40lb box. I have done farm work in the past and I know about hay. My first impression was of how there was so much brown and so little green. I thought that would change as I used the hay but it didn't change much, and it turns out as an adult my bunny preferred the crunchier stuff. That wasn't a problem because there was plenty of crunchy stuff, but then we came to the last 1/3 of the box, which was all shreds, fluffy stuff and dusty stuff.

I needed to buy more hay, and now knowing he prefers the crunchier stuff, I chose to purchase the 25lb box of second cutting from SPS. Wow! It was like night and day! 100% green, highly compressed (the top of the box was bulging when I got it) and the bunny absolutely loves it and is now eating more hay. I didn't even keep going with the old box, and I think this 25lb box is going to last longer than the bigger one! I have nothing to complain about with my purchase of second cutting, and have since found out that most bunnies are fed second cutting unless they are older and need softer hay, or picky eaters. The thing I know about 3rd cutting is that it is the one MOST affected by summer - whether there are dry conditions and for how long, etc. This product came perfectly packed, UPS dropped it a day early, and the quality of the hay is top notch. I will probably stick with this brand and second cutting now for the foreseeable future, and would recommend Small Pet Select.

I haven't a single product from Small Pet Sellect that I don't like. The hay is no exception. It's fresh, dry, and smells so good! And it's the best deal. Win win!

Wish it was cut smaller. Its a mess to pull out but its just what i need. I have this on subscription order. i wish I could review by the box. My first 2 boxes were great. My 3rd box had dead brown hay mixed in. (More than I would want)

Update 5/29/20:

I’m so impressed with SPS during the COVID pandemic. Early on, I was worried that we wouldn’t be able to get hay delivered on time with Amazon delaying deliveries. I didn’t know if hay would be considered essential. I have it on subscription, and I received every delivery on time, including the extra oat hay I ordered. It was the one thing I haven’t had to worry about for the past few months. It also ensured that I could stay safe at home. I’m thankful for everyone who made it possible for me to provide for my bunnies during these extraordinary times. It really says a lot about this company.

OP:

I’ve been ordering various hays from Small Pet Select for a year now; timothy 2, orchard, and oat. I used to drive 45 minutes to the shelter to pick up hay for my three bunnies, but that is difficult with my schedule. I also couldn’t consistently find retail bags of hay at local stores or even here on Amazon. Orders of Oxbow hay and pellets would get delayed, leaving me scrambling to keep my buns properly fed. And let’s be honest, retail bags of hay are ridiculously expensive for the amount of stale hay you get. I’m also careful not to buy blends that contain additives and lack nutritional value for my adult buns (e.g. alfalfa). I do not buy brands like Kaytee or any of those other small pet brands that willingly and knowingly sell food with fillers that can cause serious GI problems for *all* small pets.

After a year of subscribing to SPS, I have to say I’m very happy with the hay. Out of 21 deliveries, only one box appeared a little yellower than usual, and bunnies still happily devoured the box. Every box looks and smells fresh, and is packed neatly to the brim. Once we’re done with it, we break it down and throw it in our recycling bin. There is minimal waste. My buns go through two boxes (20 lbs.) a month, and we use it for both food and bedding. Unrelated, our cat also likes to sit in the hay with the buns. I really love how much time this saves me, and I never have to worry about keeping my buns fed and happy. I highly recommend SPS for the convenience and quality you get for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in the quality of your product

I have been ordering from you since 2017 and I have seen a rapid and vast decline in the quality your hay. Your hay used to come from western Washington state and it was incredible for the first few years. Over the last couple years the decline in quality has been steep. Your boxes are overpacked because you no longer take the step to separate your hay, because you no longer take this step and separate the ultra compressed hay, your boxes are filled with with dust as this is usually released when you separate it . The hay is brown wilted and no longer has flower tops. In fact this last box of second cut was a box of sticks, and the box of third cut hay was brown and filled with sand spurs. In fact, I’ve been finding all types of things that aren’t hay in your boxes, including other plants, insects, and debris. The quality has become so poor I can no longer buy your hay. Instead of taking time to put your marketing material in the boxes, take an extra second to inspect the quality of what you’re packing and separate the hay so the box isn’t half dust. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who’s tired of finding your marketing postcards in our boxes of hay like a needle.

That’s a picture of 3rd cut by the way!
