Works great for me

I switched to H&R Block basic a few years ago when TurboTax changed its pricing structure. This software is easy to use and has all the forms you need, including those for interest, dividends, stock sale, etc. There is no online help, though. If you need that, then get the Deluxe version. If you know your way around income tax forms, the basic version is a no-brainer. Highly recommend.

I have used the HR Block Software downloaded from Amazon since 2013. First purchase, I used deluxe because I sold and bought a new home. After that the basic worked. No glitches, excellent program and data from prior year is easily import to subsequent years . Best Program at a reasonable price! Thank you Amazon for providing this to your customers.

Easy to use

I've been using H&R Block products to do my taxes since the 1970s. It has never let me down. Had one recent year where I had to hire a CPA for my Fed Taxes and I also used the Block software for comparison. H&R Block got me a bigger refund than the CPA and cost me a lot less too.

I Really Like It

I prefer to complete my own federal income tax preparation each year so I've used H&R Block Tax software for decades and have found it to be most reliable - it's never failed me. I haven't used their companion "state" filing tax software since I live in FL where no personal income tax filing is required nor have I used other tax computation software products so I can't give any comparison only my recommendation that "H&R Block" - Basic works great for retirees who don't have loads of deductions and complicated filing forms. This tax software is easy to use with e-filing included at no extra cost.

Cannot activate software

I have been unable to activate the software or file my return. I receive error code 20 from H&R Block, which indicates an SSL or certificate problem. This is a known problem, with a technical note on H&R Block's website. If the steps in the technical note don't work, H&R Block says to call technical support. I have twice. Technical support is lacking, having no clue about the problem and needing to escalate to a higher level. I've spent more time on the problem than the software is worth. Don't buy the software. Might as well use free software offered by the IRS.

Covers many common schedules

The descriptions of the various versions of tax prep software try to make you believe that if you have a "complicated" situation you need one of their deluxe versions. This is generally not true as the deluxe versions just offer more hand holding or add consultation features. I've been using this version for years and it covers schedules A, B, D with no problems and has 5 free federal files. States are extra. So before you pay up for an expensive version go to the H&R Block web site and check exactly which schedules are included with each version and buy only what you need.

Had to do the form three times to get it correct. I assumed it was saving my data when I pressed save button W ;; assume broken down is ass=u=me. After third printing got it correct and finally sent off. Once finally correct I was able to email to IRS took a few hours for acceptance by IRS and less then a week for refund. It did teach be a lesson I have known for decades computer/programs are only as good as the data accepted. Output is only as good as the data the computer has accepted.
