When my old Food Saver Vacuum Sealer finally stopped working after several years, I started researching a suitible replacement. I ran across this NESCO Deluxe Food VS-12 Vacuum Sealer. It had a great number of very good reviews, so I decided to try it instead of a new Food Saver brand. So far, it has lived up to its' reputation. I have been impressed with it's performance. Yes, it is made in China, but what isn't anymore? It is well built and has the feel of quality. I have used it only for dry goods and meats, but it has always performed well. It may take a tad longer to heat seal than my old Food Saver, but is still fast. My only criticism would be that I wish you could remove the narrow tray to clean it out easier. I only needed to do that once since I had it (i don't recall what had so much moisture in it) but it was not as easy to clean out as the old Food Saver. I would still prefer this NESCO over the Food Saver. The only remaining factor now is the longevity issue. I don't expect to get a real long service life out of any new appliances today, like I used to, but I am hoping that this machine will last a reasonably long time. We will see. I will update if any major issues occur. Oh, Ddd I mention that was less expensive, too? I highly recommend it.

This one is a HIT! Third time is a charm! Works as it should first time and EVERY time! No more wasting bags. Very easy to use, quick too! This one is the BEST money spent! Makes putting meats and veggies in freezer a beeeze! Time saver for sure!!

Overall, this is a great Food Sealer, does everything it says on the tin. Especially like the well-done manual suction mode and the double-seal function. However (there had to be a BUT), the weak point of the Nesco Sealer is the gaskets. They last 6-9 months then no longer hold a seal. You should "baby" them by not storing your sealer with the top clamped down, but eventually they will fail. Fortunately, you can now get new gaskets right here on Amazon for $12 or so for two pairs (i.e. two full sets of gaskets). I just put in a new set, works great. We'll see about longevity with the new gaskets, anything over 6 months is gravy. Anyway, this is a well-priced sealer, but budget yourself extra gasket money, $12 every year or two.

One year ago, I bought a cheap off brand food saver to see how often I would use it and then it broke. I found this Nesco one and decided to give her a try. It was worth every penny and I love it! It’s so easy to use and it vacuums and double seals in about 40 seconds. Sometimes I buy the lower priced items because they are typically just as good as the higher priced ones. I’m very glad that I paid more for a name brand food saver

Love, love, love it! We reviewed a number of sealers and found this one to have the best ratings. Online videos were very helpful to us as first timers. The only drawback (a very minor one) is that there is no drain for any liquid that might escape during the sealing process. Which, for us has been a trivial issue since you just need to take a small cloth, tissue, or paper towel to occasionally clean up a small amount of liquid that collects just below the vacuum port. I'm guessing the engineers found this to be a better solution than adding a drain port that might compromise the amount of vacuum the system could pull.

So my unit stopped vacuum sealing after 5 months and customer service thru email didn't give me a lot of trouble and replaced it. In my experience, I do well with customer service overall in resolving my issue satisfactorily but then I do not return products often and when something like this happens it always feels like a roll of the dice, so when it gets resolved in my favor, I give due props.

This vacuum sealer is ok, it's highly rated so I bought it. The vacuum portion is a hit or miss sometimes, you have to kind of help by adjusting the bag as it sucks air out of it so it can get all the air out of it. Does well with relatively dry items but once you get to moist or wet, has trouble doing a good vacuum. Wish the drip plate is removable so it's easier to clean. The unit is slow to do its job. The sealer is ok. Area to place the roll plastic bag is a plus. Has a nice place in back to stow the cord. Lightweight. Kind of bulky so need a special place for it.
