- Kristin B.If You Love the Movie, You Will Really Love the Soundtrack!I recently went to see The Greatest Showman with a bunch of people and was eyeballing this soundtrack before I saw the movie. I almost bought it but decided to hold off until I saw the movie. Well... I saw the movie and ended up buying the soundtrack shortly after returning home from the movie because I loved the music that much! Many of my friends have also bought it since seeing the movie and we all can't stop listening to it!
The Greatest Showman is a musical based on Phineas Taylor (P.T.) Barnum's life as a showman who later became famous for the Barnum and Bailey Circus, the Greatest Show on Earth. I'm typically not a big fan of musicals even though I love music. While I loved the movie, I REALLY LOVED the music! It's so catchy, beautiful, and has more of a modern feel even though the movie takes place during the middle of the nineteenth century.
This soundtrack contains 11 songs and spans about 40 minutes in length. Some familiar voices you'll hear are Hugh Jackman (who plays P.T. Barnum), Michelle Williams (Charity Barnum), Zac Efron (Phillip Carlyle), and Zendaya (Anne Wheeler).
I purchased this soundtrack a couple days ago and have listened to it at least a dozen times all the way through! The songs are beautiful, upbeat, and fun to sing and dance to. I've been dancing all over the house while listening to this soundtrack and even my five-year-old twins join me! The music is fun for my kids to listen to also and they've said they like the songs. I love all of the songs but my favorites are The Greatest Show, A Million Dreams, Never Enough and Rewrite the Stars.
I've listened to this soundtrack many times already and there are no signs of slowing down anytime soon! I've recommended both the movie and soundtrack to everyone I've talked with because they are that good. If you enjoy the movie, do yourself a favor and just purchase the soundtrack because you are going to want to listen to it every chance you get! - deblonde1Great movie and soundtrackLove this and still listen to it to this day.
- ElizabethGet it great musicEvery song on this vinyl is amazing it sounded amazing no skips no problems it was clear and balanced. No warps or scratches
- Lee HauserIt's a musical, not a biographyPeople complain about this musical, how it doesn't tell the real story of P.T. Barnum, etc. I really don't care. I'm not here for historical accuracy. I'm here for Hugh Jackman and the rest of this stellar cast, and for the outstanding music. It's everything a musical should be. There's not a bad performance, and not a bad song...it's just that some are better than others.
- Sebastian SilowashWorth every pennyIt is good, definitely worth it
- TrufflehunterA great surprise! This show was as surprise hit for me, and it's thanks to a fabulous soundtrack and incredible choreography. The songs will get stuck in your head, so be forewarned!
The Greatest Show - a strong opener, really knocks the audience for a loop as they appreciate this is not a typical musical, but something action packed, exciting, contemporary. Lots of fun.
A Million Dreams - really a great theme piece for the show, the star of this is the beautiful rooftop dance between Williams and Jackman.
Come Alive - I enjoy the pacing and percussion of this, but the vocal quality gets muddled a bit by the crowd singing
The Other Side - super fun number with the incredible Efron and Jackman doing the most manliest musical choreography I've ever seen. A must watch, and great to listen to as well.
Never enough - really needed more lyrics instead of just repeating "never enough" and "for me" over and over, but it is a great chance fo Allred to show off her musical talent, which is top flight
This is Me - I may get hate for this but after listening to the soundtrack 20+ times we agreed that the singer for "This is Me" is a bit screechy for our tastes. I know there's a great story about the lady who sung it, etc., but her style is what I would call a bit "yelley".
Rewrite the Stars - I love this one. It actually has a story as Efron tries to convince Zendaya they can be together. Wonderfully coreographed with the trapeze. Both of these singers knock it out of the park, with Efron easily handling the high notes and Zendaya bringing forth great emotion in her vocalization.
Tightrope - a little hard to listen to because of its emotional content, I also find this to be my least favorite song. It's a bit bland and more of a rest between the power ballads in the film.
From Now On - I love the intro to this. The transformation that Jackman's character undergoes is inspiring and feels applicable to other parts of life. You can sing the words to this song about other changes in life, with reforming and redemptive elements. My only criticism is I could have done without the repeated "and we will come back home, and we will come back home, home again" over and over. But I have a low tolerance for repeated lyrics.
Anyways, go watch the movie and then come back for the soundtrack so you can sing along.
