Top reviews from the United States
- Charlie BrownThe Little Green Machine That Couldn'tI bought this machine with very high expectations. It is not common to see a 65K four and a half stars review in Amazon. Price point seemed very reasonable for what you get, which should have been the first flag but I just thought Bissell sells so many machines that they can offer competitive prices. I also should have read the fine print, meaning those 3 or less stars reviews but hey, who hasn't being blinded by so many stars?
First of all, the machine works. I'm not going to trash its functionality. I've used it exclusively for cleaning a big couch my 2 years old Scottie insists on licking, jumping on, cleaning his paws, his whisks, etc., etc. Since I bought it little more than a year ago, I have used it 4, maybe 5 times with great results. It is a big area and it take a lot of effort as you have to do several passes for it to be clean and dry enough, but it can be done if you are willing to spend a few hours cleaning (and several days recovering from your elbow and back injuries :-))
The problem is, that it will break soon. As you can see in the picture, a crack is starting to form where the handle meets the hose, and it started leaking. This is the area just under the end where the cleaning tool is attached. It is made of very thin plastic, and on top of it there is a hole to support a plastic fastener than maintains the hose attached (non-removable). It is really a very poor design for an area that will be subjected to plenty of pressure during the cleaning process. Particularly because being the suction power just OK -again, expected at this price point, not a complain- a lot of pressure on the couch is needed for it to be cleaned and dried properly
I contacted Bissell and they told me a) there is no spare part available to replace it b) the machine is out of warranty (a mere one year) and c) to contact the nearest repair center. Option c) is kind of odd as if there is no spare part available, how are they going to repair the machine? If you look at it closely, the entire housing, the hose, the tool, etc. is not serviceable, all parts are attached with unremovable plastic fasteners, in part explaining why it is so cheap. Maybe the motor, etc. is serviceable but at least my machine won’t live to tell. So, on top of a machine breaking after 5 uses, I have to create a non-negligible environmental impact when I throw it away. Talking about adding insult to the injury. Repairing it is out of the question, this cannot be fixed as there is no spare part available.
For now, it is crazy glue and duct tape ‘till the end. Sad to see my high expectations crashing under the weight of China manufacturing standards. My first and last Bissell, hope you have better luck - Josseling PaguagaGreat performance but water tank leaksWater tank leaks so much water. I don’t know if the machine is like this or I got a faulty one but thank god I have floor otherwise instead of cleaning it gets so messy and wet, water tank slowly leaks half of tank. Took a video but it doesn’t let me attach. Picture is hard to see because of my floor color .
I did get to test it and suction is definitely great!
I’m returning machine due to leaking but based on performance is definitely 5 stars. - Christopher TatnallI like the Bissell brand, but ...Years ago I invested in a commercial Bissell upright carpet cleaner (the kind you rent at the grocery store), and I LOVE it! However, for all its positive attributes, it's simply not practical to get out for almost-daily cat pukes, etc.
Thus, I began the search for a portable, and when I saw an inexpensive Bissell product with 100,000 mostly positive reviews, I thought I'd try this one. I'm sorry to say this was a confirmation of the adage that you get what you pay for.
I've only used it twice, but both times I'm surprised at how much cleaning is required to extract a mess. I never expected a portable to have the suction of my commercial model, but I was really disappointed. Also, if I repeatedly and slowly pull the attachment over the area it still feels completely wet. It does *eventually* leave the carpet looking clean, but I have to wonder if it's pulling out the dog pee that can easily soak down into the carpet fibers.
Secondly, the unit is extremely leaky. I tried disassembling & re-assembling a few times to make sure everything was properly seated, but to no avail. And I was doubly frustrated knowing that the weak suction would do little to suck up the water. If the unit performed better I might spend the time w/ Bissell support attempting to troubleshoot, but that was the last straw for me.
I know it's tempting to get a portable cleaner for around $80-90 , especially one that seems to have so many positive reviews (scratching head), but I would recommend going for one of the $100-150 units if you are going to spend the money at all. I just ordered a Bissell LIttle Green Pet Pro Portable ... I still have brand loyalty because of their awesome commercial cleaner. We'll see... - CLHorrible InvestmentI had high expectations when i bought this. I have children and i wanted a way to clean up the small messes without having to drive myself crazy.
Pros:
Sprays water.
Okay quality. looks good and is made of thick material.
Cons:
The suction part does not suck up enough water. You have to put so much pressure on the material to get even a drop of water out.
The scrubbing part does not actually scrub. You have to go back and forth really hard before you even notice anything.
The material was so wet from one spraying, it took nearly a half a day to air dry in direct sunlight.
My suggestion:
Go to the dollar tree, get a spray bottle and a large brush. Spray your stains, let sit for a few minutes, and scrub with the brush. it will take the same amount of time to dry and cost you less then $5.
