- SoCalJimTake the time to prep the surface area and this traction tape will serve its intended purpose well!I needed to improve the traction on a pair of steps on a lightweight 3-step ladder that I use frequently when washing my truck. The bare aluminum steps always seemed extra slippery when stepping down. I tried out the Lifegrip Anti-Slip Traction Tape (2" wide) - the surface is definitely sandpaper-like, close to 120 grit, which is perfect for my use, but the adhesive didn't seem very tacky - edit Dec 8, 2025 - I've found that this traction tapes adhesion is still holding exceptionally well after getting wet several times over during a SUV wash and hit a few times with a pressure washer. I was wrong; the adhesion appears to withstand a good beating.
This is what I did to prep the surface area to give it every chance to adhere at its best:
I cleaned all of the surfaces where I was going to appy the traction tape with isopropyl alcohol (90%), then I broke out my heat gun and heated the surface prior to applying the tape. Once I laid down the tape, I used a 2" rubber roller to apply even pressure throughout the contact areas and using the heat gun along the areas I rolled. For the plastic top step, I did the same, but I also applied a thin layer of 3M adhesion promoter. The results came out as expected and after a week of use with some water overspray, the tape is still adhering, even at the corners. I was able to press the traction tape into the crevice areas of the top step (see photos) - the roller definitely helped with this and the tape still holds its adhesion to those uneven surfaces. I think this is a win and definitely worth its modest price. - BadgerAwesome traction tape!!I tested a few different applications knowing I had to remove either the rounded edge one or the square one. The square one won!
Small one, applied directly to unfinished plywood surface, which was really hard to remove and took a chunk of plywood with it!
The larger one was finished with an eco friendly oil (food safe oil) before applying the tape and still was difficult to remove it also removed plywood fibers!

I bought the 2 inch strip and applied it to the front edge of the metal steps of my travel trailer. The steps were worn smooth and had become treacherous, which my husband can attest to.
So far it seems to grip great, texture seems to have just enough grab, we’ll see how the adhesion does through the weather this fall.
Application was easy once you finally get the paper peeled off. It was a little difficult to separate, but I got there eventually.

The first piece wasn't too bad, but as I got further into the roll, it was bad. I had to tear and bend the ends to try and get a good piece.

- Mary A.Does the job.I bought this tape after falling down my basement stairs. I followed the instructions and scrubbed the stairs before applying the tape. I did not use a long solid strip across all the stairs. Instead, I cut the tape into 2 inch strips and placed 5 - 2 inch strips strategically on each stair. They were easy to cut, the backing peeled off easily, and they adhered to the painted wood stairs very well. It has been about 3 months and I don't see any signs of corners peeling up. They aren't too noticeable, or an "eye sore". I would recommend this product, based on my experience.

- Angelica RodriguezEasy to Install and InconspicuousUsed it for my front steps, I prepped the surface by cleaning the tile and wiping it down with isopropyl alcohol first. The instructions say to round off the corners so I did as instructed. They adhered perfectly well and you can barely tell they are there. I am happy with them so far and hopefully they last a long time.
