- Superman_04Highly recommend to any Pokémon fan that enjoyed Legends: ArceusI bought the Switch 2 edition, but I’m currently playing it on an original Switch, and it runs great. As for gameplay, I’ve loved it. There are a few design choices that are a bit annoying over the course of a play-through (like the forced cutscene for the switch from day to night and vice versa), but overall, the combat style is engaging, there are plenty of side quests to keep you busy, and finding and catching Pokémon to complete the Pokédex is pretty easy and fun. Like Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Legends: Z-A is a refreshing take on the Pokémon franchise, and I would highly recommend it to any Pokémon fan that enjoyed PLA.
- Alex.CBetter than i expectedMy first pokemon game was emerald back in the gba, my last (previous to LZA) was black 2, so its been quite awhile. I know that the series has been polemic due to issues like lacking the full national dex, certain animations and graphics not being up to the standards. That's why i skipped the switch titles, but legend Z-A was promising since the start:
- Better performance and visuals (2K 60 fps on switch 2)
- Centered around a city so everything is more compacted.
- The megas return with new additions as well
- A more action focused battle system
So, how was it? i've been playing it for 30 hours and i can say that it's really fun. The main cast is quite charming and charismatic, not the deepest story but the interactions between the crew are pretty enjoyable. The soundtrack in particular is amazing, every theme is memorable. The gameplay loop is solid, the new more action focused style incentivize you to use more moves (while the ones you used first are still "charging"), due to this i found myself doing more non-attack skills, since i'm not losing a round for it, its more interactive and exciting. Catching pokemon remains very similar to arceus, you can do it freely, not limited to do it only in a battle, it may sound too easy but its not guaranteed to catch them even if you make them faint and throw an ultra ball, but there's ways to get better chances like different pokeballs (for instance, quick balls are super effective for pokemon that haven't spotted you) or getting plushes that increase your chances.
The city has enough things to do and obtain, for instance the crystal pieces that you can use to get mega stones, colorful screws to buy plushes (for more exp, money, chances to catch pokemon, etc), a lot of side quests, the wild zones, the ZA royale, etc. When you finish a main story quest, there's usually more of them plus 3 side quests or so, some of the side quests are quite simple like a pokemon battle, but others pushes you to play differently, getting a big pokemon, knowing how to identify a shiny, etc.
The mega evolutions are a cool mechanic, i know they're not specially new but they were absent in the most recent main titles. They're flashy and powerful. The boss fights (rogue mega evolution) are well done, they attack both you and your pokemon, so you gotta know when to move yourself/evade attacks and commanding your pokemon attacks.
Overall is a pretty good game, it surprised me in a way and i'm glad that i gave it a chance, instead of skipping again due to the exaggerated hate and review bombing. - Tommy S.Great game! It's a very good game to play on the Switch 2 and it also has very smooth gameplay. The storyline was very interesting till the end. The graphics were also great very smooth and detailed. Finally, as for size it is not too big or not too small, just right for storage for the gameplay.
- Alex C.Refreshing New GameplayLove it, don't listen to the hate. Battling has never been more fun and engaging.
- RyanFlawed but overall pretty good :)I think this is a really good game, in terms of the physical game card and case it came in great condition, no complaints there. And the fact this one runs on both the switch 1 and the switch 2 is great in my opinion. I don’t have to buy an upgrade when i get a switch 2 eventually.
So my problems are generally just with some of the gameplay and stuff. In terms of graphics, even on the switch 1 even if stylistically it’s not the best looking, it’s still got the highest fidelity graphics of any main series pokemon game. Which isn’t saying a lot, but still. It runs surprisingly well on switch 1, but as it should considering you’re in one single environment with not all too much to render in at any given time. There’s also not a lot of polish to the gameplay as i feel there should be at this point in the Pokemon series’ life. Biggest media franchise in the world and they can’t put some extra quality and budget into their video game series that started the entire thing…
Now let’s talk about things i like, because the things i dislike are basically just the result of game freak not having a very high budget to develop these games
I think the new battle system is really fun, while i don’t think i want it to be the main gameplay style for all of the games going forward, i’d like to see it expanded on and improved in future pokemon legends games. Real time battles with pokemon is something really cool, i’d love if it got to the point of feeling like something straight out of the anime.
The customization options for your player character are really great, there are plenty of clothing shops to buy basically any style you want. I feel like it’s lacking in hair styles though, but i don’t dislike the options we do have at least. we’re not able to choose our body types in pokemon games yet either, sadly.
i like the characters quite a bit, and the dialogue is basically always a treat. it’s really silly sometimes and i like it, some of the quests do silly stuff just for the sake of it and it’s great.
taking pictures around lumiose city is really fun, as well as taking selfies with whichever characters or pokemon are your favorites.
the game’s story and ending were honestly really nice, it could have been better i think but the ending made me really sad in a good way. look forward to it
i can’t think of much else. Overall i would recommend this game, but it’s not perfect and it’s still not quite what i’ve wanted from a home console pokemon game ever since they started coming out on switch. But it’s a good time, regardless of any issues. Give it a go if you like pokemon!! - Luis CarlosIt's a good Pokémon Game, but...The game is excellent, although the graphics leave a bit to be desired in the PNG city. As long as you don’t stop to stare at the walls for too long, the gameplay is excellent, fun, and runs smoothly on the Switch 2 version.
- Gabriel KucharskiBest gameBest Pokémon game I’ve played in a while bets all the negative views people put on it and really has a fun story and great gameplay runs well on the switch too looks amazing could do without the 80$ price tag but I’ve already put 80 hours in this game so well worth it after some time
