- GCWorks as described.Worked as needed. Data only. Was in Japan for work, stayed for 88 days. My phone as a dual physical sim setup so switched back and forth as needed, since my main network sim for phone use also has free roaming, unlimited texting etc. Then switched to this sim when out and about from Tokyo to more country areas to access data when needed. Network speeds varied during peak times, but still gave me data to watch vids, listen to music or surf.
- chelleCard did not work !This card did not work in Japan . It said not activated . Do not recommend.,
- Amazon Customer3G-30days-$20 IT WORKS on MY ANDROID PHONEJust came back to the USA from a 21 days vacation in Osaka/Kyoto/Kobe.
Upon landing in Japan, I swap out the SIM card in my Android phone with this Japanese SIM.
I followed a simple instruction on the packaging.
Made a couple of simple changes to mobile network settings.
It is working!
I lost the packaging with the instructions so I do not recall what changes I made.
Upon returning to the USA, i swapped back my original SIM card.
The phone is back to its old self!
I did not need to change any settings.
I think the setting change with the Japan SIM is only available with that Japan SIM installed.
Loosing the packaging also lost the SIM serial number or account number, SO .....
I cannot attempt to find out how much data I used during the trip.
The most data use is Google maps.
I try to use previously downloaded offline map whenever I can.
I also use the hotels free WiFi when ever I can.
While out and about Osaka, i avoid anything that burns up data usage.
Real time voice translation from English to Japanese is use only when absolutely necessary.
Otherwise, I use the previously downloaded Japanese file for Google Translate for text.
I did not use much of free WiFi at 7-11 or Family Mart (convenient store).
Some public trains has free WiFi.
Most of my voice phone calls are using WhatsApp when I have free WiFi at the hotel.
I talk to family and friends in the morning and evenings. Other time one of us is sleeping.
I also use WhatsApp for texting when I am out and about.
I did made a few calls with WhatsApp while on the SIM without the free WiFi (burning data). All works fine.
I avoided attaching photos to my text until I get back to the hotel free WiFi.
Web search is minimal. I do not know how much data it will cost me.
Common sense also say you should not be watch YouTube or a movie when using this Japan SIM.
Am I at the last kbyte of data use available on that Japan SIM? Don't know.
My back up plan is to buy another SIM card if this one is used up too fast.
Japan has SIM cards sold all over the place.
It is common to have 2 layer security verification when you log into your bank account, for example.
They will text you a code that you will enter to complete the log in.
The problem is once you swap out your SIM, your old phone number is gone.
It becomes a problem if you need to transfer fund from another bank into the ATM card account.
It is also a problem if you need to any other forms of log in like doctor office, etc.
I don't know if using this SIM I can activate my original phone number. Did not research.
Update: Found my original package and notice it say "3GB@4G/LTE speed, then UNLIMITED@200kbps".
WOW! That means i should have no fear of being left with a dead phone while out and about in Japan. I would still have service, although slow. That is very assuring. - WCStumbled with the initial set up but worked great everywhere i wentAt first, i was having a hard time getting it to work with my umidigi g6 5g with the settings provided in the instructions. So i put the sim in my old essential ph1 and it immediately connected; so, I copied the apn settings over, moved the sim back, and got it working on the umidigi.
Worked great for me everywhere i went on my 2-wk trip to Tokyo, Osaka, kyoto, hakone, nara, and kobe. It's supposed to allot me 2gig of 4g/lte per day and then throttle down. I never used it over the allotment so cannot write what the experience is to have it throttled.
Glad I made this purchase. $25 for 15 days of reliable hi-speed data. Doubt I could've found a better deal in Japan. Would easily get this again if I'm fortunate enough to go to japan again.
Settings that worked
Apn: m-air.jp

Had put the APN info according to the included instructions into the mifi settings. It connected and worked flawlessly. The speeds were fast as expected all through the city. It said that it was only 4g LTE but I turned 5g on and it worked fine and fast. I bought a lot of data and didn't use all of it but that's fine because I didn't pay a lot for it. I used it heavily and it handled like a champ. I rather have access to the total amount of data than having a daily limit then throttle down. This worked well for me. Will buy again from them.
- LauraWorks in JapanI followed the instructions for changing the APN settings, and when we touched down in Japan the SIM connected to 4G LTE immediately! I am very happy with how easy and cheap this is.
- CalvinBuy 2 only one workI bought 2 sim card ,one sim card cannot be detect, even iphone or Samsung
- Buttercup1 mo in Japan worked fine - did have to restart a number of timesI used about 8gb in 30 days in Japan, Honshu and Kyushu, including mountains and small towns. I did have to restart my phone probably 10 times to get signal, but I always got it on the restart. I used google maps and translate and lens extensively almost every day and for messaging/email etc. I did not stream any movies etc. I did turn off mobile connection frequently to save battery life. The complaint I have is that a very important part of the instruction for android phones on the packaging of what to type in your phone has a hole through it on purpose...to create the slit to insert the sim card to hold it. What dumb packaging it could literally be almost anywhere else without a problem. So I had to ask tech support to send me the details, which I shouldn't have to do. Even the pdf they sent me had a line and a circle through the same spot since it was the layout for the packaging card, so it wasn't just a misprint on mine. But I did get it to work once I got the correct info.
