- Bud WilderValue, ease of use, comprehensive forms support. As a practicing, retired CPA, I have found H & R Blocks Premium and Business Tax Software to be a superior value. I have employed this Software for years and highly recommend it for both Personal and Business Tax Preparation.
- Elisa G. PerezA great software package at a better price than anywhere else online.I have been using H&R Block software downloaded from Amazon for 20 years now and have never had any issues. I am very pleased.
- moreruckus2The business software interview could be betterI've been using HRB software for taxes for years - since they were named TaxCut. When I needed to move up to the business software, I was disappointed with the instructions, the interface, and the interview. It took some getting used to, but now that I know what to expect more or less, I can get through it without major issues. When the interview, interface and instructions for the business product are updated, then I can give this 5 stars.
- Tesla ICElessExcellent choice for tax preparationBy being in the tax preparation business, I would expect H&R Block to produce an excellent product.
Several years ago, H&RB purchased TaxCut, which I had been using since the early 1990's.
Their Interview Process covers all the issues for complete return preparation in an easy-to-understand manner. The user can try to Itemized Deduction feature and let the software show whether that or Standard Deduction will be the better choice!! - akgI moved on to the other turbo software.I got it for the partner ship tax software.
I used it for 6 or 8 years.
With the partnership gone, i do not need the software anymore, not even the individual part.
I moved back to turbo something or other.
This H&R is not as intuitive as turbo.
Different things have never been fixed from year to year.
More than half the time I had issues installing the software.
Not any more, I am no longer a customer of H&R. - LewBuy here, easier download, less hassles, same great programI have used HRB for over 15 years to do my own taxes. Every year it gets harder and harder to download it direct from HRB. My notes showed 2019 program would not download without help from HRB customer support. This year I came here to Amazon. Quick purchase. Quick download. Easy to install. Easy to set up. My personal warning to those doing this, there is a screen up front that wants all your personal info. Guess what! They already have it. This page is to get it again, with hidden permission, that they can then give out to other companies to send you personalized offers. All I did was fill in the name, no other information. Went to the bottom of the page and clicked next. Then started on this year's taxes.
- SeverianThe more sophisticated you are, the more you will hate this product.I have done my own taxes for more than 20 years. Every year the software gets a bit worse.
This year, it would seem HR Block did no serious testing of the code. I could give many examples, but I will give 4.
1. The feature to import previous taxes did not work, and the “help” documentation was wrong. I tried to use my previous year’s taxes done with HR Block software, but the program did not find the tax file. Not only did it not find the tax file, there was no option to find the tax file in the interview process. The “smart” program skipped right to the option to import data from a personal finance program like Quicken, but nothing for taxes. When I looked at the help entries, the steps listed were not even options on the screens I was seeing. Eventually I figure out on my own that I could use the menus to do the process myself, but any basic testing of the software should have uncovered this error in the interview process. See the end of #2 with a guess as to why this failed.
2. Saving the tax file to my preferred location was surprisingly hard. I would opt to decide where I wanted to save my file, and then the autosave feature would save to the OLD location. This happened several times. It is not clear to me if the file save was actually failing or if the message saying the file save was wrong, but it was clearly glitched. I would guess that many of the problems with this software come from clunky use of the Windows Registry. The HR Block coders decide how they think your files should be handled, and if you don’t do it the way they do it, then the code is going to break. Repeatedly. The more you know about what you want to do with your files, the more you will hate this product.
3. Crypto failure. This tool is supposed to help with taxes, not just be a form entry tool. Well, there is a section which asks if you have traded crypto. I said yes. And then… Nothing. No reported amount recorded. No information on what to do with that event. I went to look at the raw form, and sure enough, the government just asks the question if you sold crypto. But there was no guidance on how to report transactions for taxes. Because the amount was quite small, I just reported the income in the manual section for other income, but: A. I’m sure I overpaid the taxes on it B. the tool should help with exactly that kind of question. Crypto is not new. Millions of people buy and sell crypto. The tool should be better than nothing for these events.
4. Errors in W-2 entries. For one of my forms I had no state tax withheld. I entered nothing. This flagged the entry as incomplete in the error check. I entered “0”. Still incomplete in that form. Kept popping up to force a fix. After 20 minutes of changing the value, entering “.11” to trigger a round down entry, nulling the field, deleting the form, re-entering the form, etc. I gave up. I put in “1” and then overpaid taxes to compensate for the data entry error.
These are not the whole set of problems by a long shot. Add the fact that they try to jam you an extra $20 for filing state taxes, or the ever-more-useless help system, confusing interview screens, etc., and you have a bad product.
If you haven’t done your taxes yet, don’t use this piece of junk. I don’t know if the other products are any better, but I can tell you definitively that this one is not good. Try something else.
Good luck. - LDS247RU2Accurate software with all the necessary forms***Important to Read*** If you want to import last years data into your new software, all you need to do is open up last year's H&R Block software and then 'backup' last years return. This creates a .T20 extension file that then is imported into the current year's software program. It takes less than one minute for the entire Backup and Import process. I backed up last years return onto my Desktop so that it was easy to navigate to when opening this years program then importing the file. H&R Block software is easy to use, very accurate, and has been my go-to software for decades.
