- RichmanExcellent productI have been using this device for over 8 months now. I can attest to the fact that it works great and it was very easy to setup. It is well made and great for the price. All 4 pieces I’m using have worked flawlessly. I use them to control my kids access to electronic devices at home: game console, TVs etc. I highly recommend this product. I had no issues with compatibility and the timer function has worked solidly. My kids now know it’s a waste of time to try and wake up too early to watch tv or play a game as the devices won’t turn on.
- Old Top KickPerfect Replacement for WemoWe had an investment in Wemo smart plugs and switches. Cloud support for Wemo is being discontinued leaving most Wemo gear useless.
A couple of discussion boards recommended Kasa so I thought I'd give them a try. I'm glad that I did!
First off, the Kasa smart plugs are much smaller than the old Wemo units.
Setup is extremely simple. Make note of your WiFi network name (SSID) and password as you'll need them the first time. Install the Kasa app -- iPhone and Android are supported -- set up an account and password, and follow the prompts. That's it!
One thing that is not mentioned in the app during setup is that you may need to disable the feature that switches from WiFi to cellular internet automatically. This tripped me up but once I disabled it, setup worked every time.
The app offers a lot of features such as integration with 3rd party services and applications. I haven't delved into those as I really don't need them.
I did dig through setting up some automated actions such as turning off a lamp at midnight and turning the porch lights on at dusk and off at dawn. Getting them set up is a bit kudgy but once I figured it out it works flawlessly. - WillEasy to set up and usei bought 4 of these, and ordered 4 more later. They are great when you want to turn lamps and other devices on and off automatically - especially when you are not home. Install the app, plug one into the wall and plug in your device, then set up the device on your app. The smart plug mini only uses one 3-prong 120V outlet. Couldn't be easier to use.
- jed aLove these plugs!Great product, they work well and help me control fans, lights and various things in my house. The Kasa app is easy to use. I would have given them a 5 rating, but the size is a little awkward when using with a power strip.
- Stephen HarrisEasy to set up, local control, measurements seem accurateI've used a fair number of these plugs in the past so I already had the app set up. Adding new plugs takes just around 2 minutes (I timed it) to add it to the network, configure it in the app, update the firmware, check the settings. A box of 4 like this can be done in under 10 minutes. I do this as soon as the box arrives to verify the plugs do work (I've not had a problem yet) and so they can go on the shelf, ready for when I need them.
A cloud account is needed to do the initial setup, but once configured they can be controlled locally (either via a command line or via Home Assistant) so there's no run-time internet dependency. Home Assistant can also track the power usage to draw graphs or for automation.
I'd tested some earlier purchases against a Kill-a-Watt power meter and they numbers it reported were comparable. I believe the numbers reported are sufficiently accurate, which is more than I can say for cheaper "random-name" plugs.
I have some of these monitoring my fridge (the startup spike is a little concerning; could this reduce the lifetime of the plug? It's survived a year so far!), electric kettle, coffee machine, microwave, washing machine, drier and more. Home Assistant automation means I can get announcements "Washing machine has finished" when the power usage drops to zero.
All in all I like these for home automation monitoring and control purposes. They seem accurate and reliable and small enough that you can fit two into a standard 2-outlet socket. - Victoria HummelBetter than a plug-in timerThese are awesome. Best friends of ours suggested these and man we wish we knew about these sooner! It only takes me about 1-2 minutes to sync them to my phone, and once I sync 1 to my Amazon account app they all automatically sync right on up. So u addition to using my phone I can also use the Alexa which is stinking awesome. Easy to setup and control and honestly cheaper than a plug-in timer and works 10x bettee
- J. S. SchlatterWork well and easy to set up.This review is for the Kasa Smart Plug Mini 15A, Smart Home Wi-Fi Outlet
These outlets worked very well and were easy to set up with the Kasa app.
Once set, the timers will continue to work even without wifi, although a wifi connection is required to reset the local time or to change the schedule.
