Today, the “Gas Cap” warning appeared. I didn’t even know such warning existed on my 2006 RAM1500. I removed it and reinstalled it. It didn’t help. I know that I could’ve disconnected the battery for 20 min and then tried again, but since I had saved the original gas cap, I reinstalled it. Then disconnected the battery. So I’ll have to wait and see what happens, and if I get another warning like this I’ll just bite the bullet and order a Mopar replacement. I’m returning this one.

After 200+ thousand miles, the original fuel cap on my 2006 RAM1500 Hemi was overdue to be replaced.
This replacement cap is a direct fit, inexpensive, and looks fantastic.
To swap it, all you have to do is un-clip the retainer from the gas cap hinge, and press in the new one. It’s a tight fit, so you may have to use a blade to carefully cut the original clip. I used a pair or automotive retainer removal pliers.
If your check-engine light is on, disconnect the negative battery cable (never the positive) with a 10mm wrench, while you remove the old cap and install the new one. This will reset the computer.
If the check-engine comes back on after a few days, any mechanic with a scanner will tell you the codes or you can do it yourself (there are plenty of videos on how to do this).
BTW, this is also an excellent opportunity to replace the old (and probably corroded) battery terminals, which is super easy to do.

It was very easy to install and the check engine light went off and has not come back on in 2 months.

- David OFAJust buy it, it’s not worth blowing your engine upIf you need one of these, GET IT ASAP!!!!! You cannot let gasoline oxidize at all, if you do then you risk not only water entering your gas and the oxidation of gasoline, but you also risk your engine knocking and eventually exploding, or even deforming if you get enough water in there. Very simple installation it’s clickable just snap it on and boom you’re done it’ll function just like it was intended, it’s the same quality as the original manufacturer so it’s not anything different than before. Just buy it, it’s not worth totaling your car engine
- MGcheck engine light is now offReplaced one on a PT cruiser where the check engine light was coming on due to loose original gas cap. The light is off now.
- Christian AgredaAffordable but not durableI got this because of my engine light turning on. I thought it was great value for the money, but the lock of it is not the best. Seems like cheap plastic that barely fulfills its purposes. The tether is also weak and looks like it can rip any second.
