After 1st projects, in addition to what's in the box, it’s useful to have on hand some extra quilting fabric, polyfill, small containers for pins and such plus a small starter bin or shoe box to keep things organized.

What could be improved: I wish the kit included a small pair of scissors, a needle threader, and a small plastic needle case that easily opens and closes.
I bought myself an embroidery kit at the same time I purchased this for my daughter. My kit came with everything I needed to get started plus videos. This Let's Learn to Sew kit has an extremely helpful ans detailed manual with colorful pictures; however, if it came with the extra pieces I mentioned before (scissors, needle threader, and needle case) and video tutorials, this would be a much more comprehensive beginner's kit.
