- DavidA review of the physical discThe movie is enjoyable, but this review is a review of the quality of the 4k blu ray more than anything.
Visually, the movie looks amazing. Excellent detail and great color. The Dolby Vision really improves the presentation of the movie. My favorite part of this visuals is the aspect ratio. Unlike the version you can buy on VOD or online streaming services, the physical disc presents the action scenes in full screen (think IMAX presentation in Dark Knight or other Christopher Nolan movies). The scene when Hiccup and Toothless take Astrid on her first dragon ride is stunning with the "open" aspect ratio. I compared the presentation with the streaming version (the version you get with the Movies Anywhere code) and there's no question that the 4k Blu Ray looks better. Sometimes the difference is slight but not in this movie. The Blu Ray is the definitive version of the movie (as of the time of this writing).
Audio wise, the Dolby Atmos presentation is good but not the best. I feel like that the mix lacks a bit of bass especially in the last scene with the big dragon. It could be my sound bar but I felt like I wasn't wowed. But it was still good. It didn't detract from my enjoyment of the visuals. - Victoria BellGreat family filmWay better than other live action animated movie adaptations I've seen! This live action really followed the original animated movie story line so closely. We thoroughly enjoyed watching this is a family. I love that they casted Gerard Butler as Stoick, he was perfect!! My biggest peeve about the casting was Astrid, she lacked the "snarky" touch of the animated character and just seemed a little "flat" and lack-luster to me. Overall a great family film!!
- Eric JoinerBest version ever!Well worth the wait for this hyper-realistic live animation..Some flying scenes felt so realistic!
- BigFan In MO.Good Movie!Very good film. Loved the integration of animation with live action. I had seen the original animated version years ago, and since this got really good reviews, decided to buy it. Astrid didn't translate as snarky as the original but she was still pretty good The digital copy worked as expected. Happy with my purchase.
