- CustomerA very worthy entry into the Tron lineupThere's a lot to say about this movie but I'll keep it brief. As of my writing, this film didn't do great at the box office and has a rough RT score. But the audience score is in the high 80s and I'll tell you why.
This film hits the vibe perfectly. It's exactly the vibe I've come to expect from a Tron movie. Is it as good as the Daft Punk extended music video known as Tron Legacy? Well that's a high bar. But I was not disappointed by NIN's absolutely killer sound track to this movie, and the way it was applied to the movie gave it a surreal, warm, devistating quality that really gives you a visceral reaction to the events in the movie. You're not just watching events unfold, you feel them as each jarring song drowns out what you see on screen.
This gives the film a re-watchable quality second only to Tron Legacy.
Now, the plot. Is it super advanced? Not really. It's a standard McGuffin plot, with likable enough characters. Jared Leto didn't add or subtract from the film (many don't like him but I didn't mind his presence in this). The main protagonist is forgettable. The plot was a little confusing in places- like, why would an old backup copy of the grid have the "permanence code" that predates ISOs?
But you know what, if you sit back and let it be what it is, it's an extremely well produced, well executed movie. If my biggest complaint is that the plot is a little light, that's saying a lot given how horrible the slop Hollywood puts out these days is.
If you haven't yet seen this, give it a try, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. - Joe DelioGreat movie, future classic, don't listen to the haters.Don't listen to the haters out there. This is a modern take on the Tron franchise. This is not a direct direct sequel to Tron Legacy, only because Disney got distracted by Star Wars and Indiana Jones and totally dropped Tron like a kid at Christmas forgetting what they already had. It is also the Dillinger Grid, along with parts of the new Encom grid.. these are new grids we have not been able to see in the past.
So, take a breath, leave the expectations behind and aee Tron Ares with an open mind. This is not Tron Legacy 2, and thats ok.. it's a great movie (it could be better) but it has great visuals (great 3d in the theaters) and great audio.
There are also those Leto haters that hated on it because he was in it.. but I thought he played the character great.
This is going to be a future classic.. shame so many people were so hard on it. - Travis PrangeAres is a great, fun ride!Tron: Ares is an interesting shift and is a great companion to Legacy.
The whole point of Ares is to show what Tron looks like from within a competitors grid: dark, rigid, unyielding. The music from NIN is a spot-on addition to the theme of the movie and a great opposing dynamic from Legacy. Viewing through that lens may give viewers some great appreciation for the movie. It's fun to see where the series was attempting to go (a convergence of both Legacy and Ares conclusions) had it been successful financially. However, Disney has done few favors with their choices, including lack of tie-ins or items only available at their theme parks.
The 80s sequence(s) of this film are amazing and overall it's a fun ride if you're a Tron fan. I hope this isn't End of Line. - scot garrettMusic, action...no Tron.I thought it was amazing. My favorite band is NIN so I was excited for the soundtrack. I went into it as a giant NIN music video. It was. But SO much more!! The music complimented the film amazingly well. Was the plot great no. But none of the plots for Tron movies are. The action was amazing and the fun of the Grid in the real world was thought provoking. The lead protagonist was nothing special and kinda boring. I'm not a Jared Leto fan but he was ok in this. My BIGGEST issue: the character of Tron isn't in it...or mentioned.
- Frank BrooksA Far Better MovieThis is a far better movie than people give it credit for. It has gripping vibrant action and suspense to spare along with deep philosophical questions about life itself. The pacing is perfect. Jared Leto's portrayal of Ares was so sincere it helps to easily immerse you in the world this film so eloquently builds. The soundtrack from NIN sets the stage sonically while feeling like the next upgrade in computer software.
Haters gonna hate but you don't have to pay attention to them.
Watch it for your self and make up your own mind. - RELENTLESSNO 3D BLU?NO 3D BLU...NO INTEREST
- AntonHope we get Tron 4It’s another good Tron movie with amazing visuals and audio. Disappointing there will not be an imax ratio but expect a 4k crisp image. Lastly, I hope we get a sequel to see the continuation of Sam and Quorra with Ares.
- AS24Fantastic film!Fantastic film! If you love the Tron movies, you’ll definitely enjoy this one. The visuals are stunning and the soundtrack is incredible. The story is easy to follow and makes for an overall great watch.
The 4K release is reported to use the theatrical aspect ratio. I was hoping the IMAX sequences would be preserved with shifting aspect ratios, but that may still change once we watch it fully. The disc is currently listed as 66GB — I was hoping for a 100GB release — but we’ll see how it performs during playback and update the review afterward!
