  • An Entertaining Film
The A/V on this Blu is terrific.
As for the movie itself, Marlon Brando notwithstanding, I will stick with a normal letter "S" standing for Superman. I am not too happy with the movie being about our world having "gods and monsters" for over 3,000 years, living with normal humans and ruling those normal humans. This really stretches my disbelief so far that it's to the point of breaking.
The movie is very well done. Special F/X are superb. Corenswet is an excellent Superman. If one accepts the basic concepts (and the length of the film), it is very good. My wife and I intend to watch this movie again within the week.
Despite my criticisms, we both rate this film 5-stars.
  • Powerful Atmos Mix: Best Experienced Above Reference Level
I’m writing this review purely on the audio quality and Dolby Atmos performance of this disc, not the movie itself.

At reference level (0.0 dB, ~85 dB SPL), the mix actually came across a little quieter than I expected, especially compared to demo discs like Dune or Blade Runner 2049. For the first time, I decided to push the volume above reference to +5.0 dB, and wow—that’s where this track really came alive.

Some have noted that this wasn’t meant to be a “demo disc,” and that’s intentional. The audio engineers behind this mix are extremely experienced, with backgrounds in major blockbuster titles, and you can tell the balance and clarity were by design.

On my 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos system, the immersion was excellent. My dual REL 10” subs delivered deep, tactile bass that I could feel from 10 feet away, while my ELAC Debut 2.0 C6.2 center channel pushed so much air it felt like both a speaker and a fan at the same time. Overhead effects were well-placed, and the dynamic range created a truly cinematic experience.

At 0.0 dB, I’d give the audio mix 4 stars since it doesn’t hit as hard as reference discs like the Heavy Metal 4K disc. But once pushed past reference, it transforms into a stunning, fully immersive Atmos experience.

Overall: 5 stars if you’re willing to crank it up—an impressive Dolby Atmos mix that rewards going above reference levels.
  • Great movie and physical release, small nitpick
Great and entertaining movie, specially in my 4K TV it looks very nice. Very neat special features the fans will love. The cover sleeve also has this effect that changes Superman into Clark Kent depending on the angle, it looks awesome. My only problem would be the main menu. It might just be something menus do nowadays but I think this one is very bland and selecting options feels very sluggish and delayed. Even with all that, I highly recommend getting it for the best possible quality.
  • best superhero movie!
so excited to watch all the bonus features!!
  • Fun film
Fun film. Love Superman films in general.. This one is particularly family friendly. Significant scenes of intense violence hence good vs evil. I liked it. Nostalgic in his costume very old school looking.
  • Best… Krypto… ever!
I grew up with the original comic book Superman back in the 1950’s. As a young kid, I had no money. But whenever we went to the grocery store, my Dad would kindly buy me one or two comic books from the comic book rack. They cost 10 cents each. I still have all of them, over three hundred pounds of them stored away in sealed boxes. For a kid with a vivid sci-fi imagination, these were my touchpoints. This was before color TV, before hundreds of channels, before streaming movies (movie theaters a rare treat), before the Internet, before cell phones, and before overtly complex social relationships. In those pages, printed on cheap paper, our post-WWII dreams came to life.

Superman was the best. He was shown in grainy color pictures leaping skyscrapers, running faster than a speeding bullet, and defeating the evil doers. Yes, he was a "strange visitor from another planet" but raised (like me) in a real human family. Despite his enhanced powers he was vulnerable not just to kryptonite, but to human relationships. Best of all, he had a super dog! Krypto was the best pet ever: loyal, smart, and able to fly to accompany Superman on his thrilling adventures. Morphed into the black-and-white TV show, Superman and his Super-dog just got stronger and more admirable: fighting for Truth, Justice, and the American Way! As a kid, I loved Superman and Krypto.

But then I grew up. Along with color TV came Vietnam, women liberation marches, racial unrest protests, hippies, rock-and-roll, and drugs. Superman evolved through more TV series, movies, and continued comics (much more expensive than in the 1950’s!), being “rebooted” several times. But Krypto largely remained the same. He was a steady, loyal, obedient sidekick upon which one could depend even if the world became dangerously unstable.

In this brilliant, present reboot of the Superman mythos, I hardly recognized the man or the alien. In the first of the movie he seemed behind the times, naïve, impulsive, unsure, prone to modernly shallow romantic “relationships,” and no longer a unique icon exemplifying the best in me. However, giving the movie a chance, I continued. It quickly became obvious that he’d been dragged kicking and screaming into the modern, complex world. Now he coexists with an Internet, cell phones, advanced scientific gadgets, doddering adopted parents, a modern girlfriend, competing superheroes, complicated wars, and a genius-but-conflicted villain to face. His life is much more complicated…

Yes, he was no longer the “black and white,” “good versus evil,” “right versus wrong,” DC hero but more the Marvel version of a “superhero with a problem.” His problem is gradually revealed as internal shame at being a discarded Alien, abandoned and betrayed by his real parents, and even when applauded saddled with being an “other.” While Earth-humans applauded him as a convenient savior, they still secretly envied and feared him. His anger at the bubbling-up rejection of his “righteous” actions threatens to undo him.

But Krypto, his faithful companion, remains the same… right? Nope. This dog is wild, dumb, destructive, good-intentioned but bumbling, and because of his superpowers capable of great destruction. Give an animal superpowers and what do you expect? This is it! Patterned after a real, crazy dog owned by the Director, this Krypto might chew your foot off as likely as lick your face! Wow! Central to the movie, channeling the wild creature driven by instincts that’s within all of us is revealed best rooted in love and respect. The final scene of the movie embedded in the credits perfectly summarizes this endearing paradox.

Viewed projected in 4K onto a large wall screen with full surround sound turned up, this is an immersive experience worth watching several times. The movie is stunning in its special effects, scintillating in its accompanying music, surprising in its plot twists, puzzling in its deliberately atypical costumes, endearing in its human relationships, thought-provoking in its psychological underpinnings, thrilling in its action story, and gripping in the believability projected by its powerful actors. But it’s not the “regular” Superman: rather a dystopian vision painted in bright, glaring 1950's colors. To top this tour de force, the amazingly realistic, special-effects Krypto is the star!

In our present world driven mad by horrific inequality, climate crises, desperately migrating trapped populations, religious intolerance, and endless wars of “preemption” or “liberation” Superman remains a touchstone of our better natures. Over and over, we here see him and his chaotic sidekick-pet managing to somehow protect the individual innocent person. No, it's not grandly vague generalities, unbreakable "principles," global politics, or personal ambitions. It's the naked empathy of putting ourselves in some else's shoes.

Yes, it’s a complicated world today that's reflected within the movie, much more so than it was in the simpler 1950’s. But the message here is the same that I resonated with as a young boy: recognizing and confronting the “alien” in all of us, realizing the “other” is only an unhelpful illusion, and tapping into our inner strength defining ourselves by what we do. When we truly see ourselves in Krypto, we have an opportunity to become more than just smart, selfish animals.

Bring on a similarly spectacular reboot of Supergirl! I still love her almost as much as I do Superman and Krypto. Sure, we don’t have to all retreat into partying under a red sun to get drunk, temporarily escaping from our tough reality. Instead, we can be inspired by her crazy shared pet and her idealistic cousin—whether we are a confused kid or an even more-confused senior citizen—to be just a little bit better...
  • Good movie at a good price.
Superman 4K Movie as described; fast shipping.
  • Its A Bird, It's a plane, It's SUPERMAN
If you love Superman and I do, quite a nice remake. Krypto is my favorite. And finally a believable Lois Lane!
