- EbonyThe Best Dot Ever!I love the Dot Max. Especially, the different colors are nice????????. I got the purple ???? one. It sounds crystal ???? clear. It fits perfectly in a certain spot next to my Bed ????️. I wish ???????? this one had the time like the others, but it's ok. I know it's coming, ????. The features are even better. I like that you can setup easier and the buttons are on the front instead of the top. The cost is not bad at all. It works well with the Alexa+. She's faster than ever and her response is even better. She talks to you like a real person does, wow ????. You're going to love this Dot Max and I highly recommend it. I might get another one ????.
- Jonathan ArmijoAwesomeSo I just received my Echo Dot Max and I'm very impressed with it. The sound quality is good, nice bass and vocals are clear. It hears me when I'm across the room and I can hear it's response clearly. The volume is great weather you want it somewhat low to have it in the background or if you want it to fill the room for a jam session. I don't have anything bad to say about it. Alexa+ is really cool and functional, it learns quickly and remembers. The new voice is different just because I'm used to the old voice. So if you guys are looking to upgrade or just looking for one I highly recommend the dot max!! I wish I would of got purple though!!
- J. HarmonOk, but not great, needs to project more soundstage for larger roomsI wanted to love this speaker but noticed a signficant drop in volume and sound stage, this replaced an Echo 1st Gen tower speaker. I thought that for the price this unit would have sufficiently upgraded hardware to be able to perform near to the tower speaker which from what I have seen none of the newer gen speakers equal. The only reason I replaced is that speaker was just showing the blue ring all the time. The quality is acceptable for a small room but certainly not great for family room or even a master bedroom. The one thing I like is the size, this one looks great and has descent audio but certainly not enough volume and sound stage for the price increase from the older spherical dot models. I have several of those and really like them for small spaces. We wanted an unobtrusive speaker for bedroom use without using a show or one of the newer screen style units that have fairly good audio, I have one of those in kitchen and it has been great. As for this Dot Max, for me its just ok and the audio performance doesnt match the price vs the younger sibling models. To date none of the dots or Echos has matched the quality, volume, sound stage and mic array functionality of the 1st gen Echos. That is a bummer as I had hoped this max could deliver in a smaller footprint.
- 50yroldMWFGood speakerPurchased this to replace a 1st generation echo spot which is not compatible with new Alexa+ format. It worked fine, but never had great sound like many of the echo devices do. I have multiple echo devices including several 1st generation shows, echo 15, echo 5, echo 8, echo dots and echo studio. The 1st generation shows (which still work great but are not Alexa+ compatible), the echo 8 and echo studio speakers have exceptionally good sound quality. The echo 15 sadly does not which is a bummer considering the price and otherwise beautiful screen. The dots are hit or miss. I have one in the garage that sounds wonderful, but others sound like an inexpensive bluetooth speaker. So far, this Echo Dox Max is good, but not great. I haven't used it solely for listening to music or as a part of a speaker group which is where I really like having multiple echo devices. I've been listening to audiobooks and today show radio on SiriusXM and the sound is ok, nothing to brag about. In my opinion it is nowhere near as good as the Echo studio, but it's a lot more affordable. I had the first generation Echo speaker (tall cylinder) and it was an amazing speaker that rivalled Bose/Sonos. The newer studio speakers are also very good sound wise but look so similar to the dot they are hard to distinguish. The Echo Dot Max came connected to my house setup which is nice. It's plug and play.
- Richard MontoyaMy smart home is now a "smart home." Also, Alexa+ is awesome!RECOMMEND:
Yes.
PROs:
• Works with Alexa+ (Amazon's AI). Alexa+ is significantly better than its predecessor. (Free subscription with an Amazon Prime account.)
• The voice is way better. More natural. Quicker response time.
• The response with Matter devices seamless. Uses Thread too!
• Extends your Eero WiFi. (I had not idea!) It's not a switch/router... just an extender.
CONs:
• Music audio is thin. Don't expect an immersive experience. Treat like a cool little desk-side speaker.
• Alex+ is a neutral (neutered) AI. It will not give you it's opinion on topics like politics. It's just an assistant.
BACKGROUND:
I recently became frustrated with how my Echo towers (ver. 1/2015) were interacting with my home "smart" devices. I had a conversation with ChatGPT and it told me that my Echo towers were most likely the culprits since they do not have the ability to talk to Matter devices or use Thread.
After installing two of these new Echo Dot Max, all my problems went away.
If you're like me and you're still rockin' old Echo devices and are experiencing connectivity issues with your smart home, do yourself a favor and upgrade to these new Echo devices that can run Alexa+ and have Matter/Thread support.
