  • Incredible Pain Relief for Wheelchair Patient
I have a seriously ill lady, with many major problems. She's been in hospitals now for several months, and has become extremely deconditioned. To get back and forth to doctors, when she's out of the hospital, we use a medical transport system. It's an important service, but there's often a wait of at least an hour. KF, as I'll call her, has no body muscle, no subcutaneous fat, and no padding at all. She has to sit in a wheelchair, waiting. Then there's the bumpy ride, then the doctor appointments, a ride back and so forth.

This lady has so much pain in her tail-bone, it's excruciating. She's in tears after about 10 minutes, and can hardly bear it during one of the appointment days. It's terrible! Then there's wheeling to meals at the facility, PT and other sitting events. She can't stand up, and never gets a chance to build muscles before the next medical crisis.

Why the long story? Because today, we gave this cushion a test run. KF was in the ICU for 4 days, and released for transport, scheduled at 1:30pm. They got her into the chair with the new cushion, using a power lift, at around 1:15pm. We sat for 1 hour and 10 minutes, before the transport showed up. I kept asking her, "How's your tail-bone?" "Fine!"

The ride was about half an hour, then a bit of wait until she could be lifted out of the chair, back to bed. By the time I showed up, about 3 hours had passed and I didn't know what I'd find. Usually, she's in such pain she gets a Vicodin, and can hardly function for the rest of the day. Not this time!

Using this cushion, KF was about as "normal" as she'd been prior to getting into the wheelchair! Unbelievable! No tail-bone problems, no muscle cramping, no leg pain, no shoulder pain, and no arm and elbow pain, from trying to constantly adjust in the chair. Since she can't move much, it's very hard for her to even squirm around at the moment, but she didn't have to!

This is a superb pillow. We've had it only one day, but I can't believe how much we're pinning our hopes on something so basic. Back at the facility, I showed it to a guy who's lost a leg and had major cellulitis. His spine has degenerated to bone-on-bone, and he can barely sit in a wheel-chair for more than an hour. There's nothing he can do, but he's robust, has a solid body with a lot of padding, but has almost no spinal support whatsoever. He was astonished at how comfortable we was when we tried out the pillow.

Fingers crossed, hoping it lasts. I've rarely seen something that provides so much relief in such a basic way.

UPDATE: This is absolutely a lifesaver! Within 1 week of using the cushion, KF's tailbone was mostly healed. She can now sit for the many hours in waiting rooms, PT or other problems.

TIP: If you're using this with incontinence situations, definitely by two! If there's an issue, the outer fabric covering is easy to wash. But the inner memory foam isn't so easy, and takes forever to dry. MAJOR TIP: You can take off the outer casing, then cover the foam cushion with a 13-gal trash bag. Replace the casing, and the plastic bag isn't noticeable at all when used for sitting. However, it prevents liquids from soaking into the foam. The cushion is so critical you'll want a backup while the outer casing for the soiled one is in the wash.
  • Great for releaving coccyx pain, but not necessarily good for sciatic pain
I'm torn in how to review this product. I would say 3 1/2 stars, but can't give half stars. I developed a herniated disc in L5/S1 several months ago. Lucky me (with sarcasm), the hernia protruded right against the right sciatic nerve. This caused pain throughout my right leg. Anything touching my right leg was really painful. Sitting was bad. After scouring Amazon, I purchased this cushion to help reduce pain from sitting. I was really hoping this would help me. Due to the size of the hernia and pain from hitting the sciatic nerve this cushion only allowed me to sit for 10-20 minutes at a time, which was longer than without a cushion. Even though the cushion is dipped down for the legs to rest into, it was still putting pressure on the sciatic nerve along the underside of my leg. I had to switch to a wedge cushion, because it didn't put as much pressure on the underside of my legs. After weeks of PT, the hernia has reduced, thus decreasing the sciatic pain. There is still some pain that develops from sitting too long (30-60 minutes). However, the reduction in the hernia has now changed the comfort of the wedge cushion. Now the wedge cushion seems to tighten my lower back muscles and cause hip pain. So, I pulled out the Everlasting cushion. With the reduction of the hernia, this cushion was much more comfortable, didn't cause back/hip issues, and allows me to sit up to 2 hours. I have to make sure that my feet are flat on the floor and not dangling (like in a bar stool); otherwise there would be pressure placed against the sciatic nerve. With more therapy, a reduction of activities that aggravate my herniated disc and this seat cushion, I hope to sit longer without triggering long term sciatic pain. Oh, I tried using this in my car (before and after the reduction of the herniated disc), but it wasn't comfortable. Again, the height of the cushion put pressure on the underside of my leg and aggravated the sciatic nerve when driving. Because the hernia is affecting the right leg, and I use the right leg to drive, the extended position of my leg causes it to rest more deeply into the cushion and the sciatic nerve. I have to use a wedge cushion for driving. I can't use the Everlasting cushion as a passenger either, because the seats are bucket. Bucket seats place the edge of this cushion higher up; creating increased contact with the underside of my leg and sciatic nerve. The wedge cushion is the only thing I can use in the car. I'm 5'11', 170 lbs, and consider myself average sized. The size of the cushion fits my butt perfectly and comfortably. The cushion is well made. The cover seems durable. The underside of the cover has tiny rubber bumps to keep it from slipping from the chair. It's zippered, so the cover can be washed. The coccyx cut out is generous, so I believe this would serve someone with coccyx issues very well. It's a hit or miss for people with full blown sciatic issues due to herniated disc. With that said, this has proven to be helpful with a more mild herniated disc issue.I can't say this is the best cushion being I have nothing else to compare to. But, I don't think I need anything else.

This update is weeks overdue. I'm gladly increasing my star rating from 3-4. The owners read my review. They reached out, via email, apologized and offered a full refund. There was nothing to apologize for. I explained in my reply that even though it doesn't work in the car for my herniated disc/sciatic situation (the intended purpose of the purchase), I use it in the house chairs comfortably. They still provided me a full refund AND let me keep the cushion. Amazing customer service and satisfaction! As a company that develops and sells medical products, this shows me how serious they are about health care! I'm now a huge fan of this company, and tell people to give it a try. I went back to their store front to see if there was anything else I might buy to help support them. I couldn't find anything, and suggested they consider making a wedge cushion, which is the only cushion I can sit on in a vehicle. I will buy another of these cushions when this one wears out, but think it will be a while. Thanks again Everlasting Comfort! I'm grateful and humbled.
  • Nice but it didn't hold up long term.
I have had this for 3 months. It is well made and it was nice at the start but after using it for 4 days a week at my desk it really doesn't hold up well to providing me comfort like it did when it was new. I will look for something better. I weigh 100kgs/220lbs.
  • Ok but don’t recommend
It helps but it is extremely hard and doesn’t provide support in the thigh area. I decided to keep it because it does help with relief in the spine but I can’t sit on it for long periods. I don’t recommend it because it really isn’t big enough for lasting comfort.
