  • Impossible Tale, Lovely Story
Albom weaves many lessons into a time travel-type tale with shades of Groundhog Day. Can one really become a better person if there are do-overs? An enjoyable read that will no doubt enter and re-enter my thoughts for a long time.
  • Couldn’t put this book down it was so excellent.
Just finished this wonderful book. So thought provoking… it makes you ask of yourself, what would I change in my life if I could.
    Highly recommend this book.

    ????✨ Book Review ✨????
    Twice
    by Mitch Albom
Genre: Literary Fiction | Magical Realism | Romance
    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What if you could hit “undo” on your life—but only once? Would you get a second chance at love, or lose it forever?

Mitch Albom returns with his signature blend of magical realism and heartfelt philosophy in Twice.

The story follows Alfie Logan, a man with the miraculous (and terrifying) power to relive any moment he’s ever experienced. He gets a do-over on everything—mistakes, regrets, even near-death moments. But when he finally finds true love with Gianna, he discovers the devastating catch: once he tries to redo a relationship, that love is lost forever.

Decades later, as an elderly man accused of cheating at a casino, Alfie recounts his incredible life story to a detective—forcing both him and us to confront the ultimate price of unchecked desire.

Albom once again captures what it means to be human—to love, to lose, and to remember. His storytelling is gentle, comforting, and full of grace. Told with Albom’s trademark warmth and spiritual insight, Twice beautifully weaves together life, death, and the unseen threads that connect them—reminding us that the people we love never truly leave us.

It’s a story about grief, temptation, and the irreversible nature of true connection. Twice is heartfelt, tender, and deeply reflective.

Perfect for fans of The Five People You Meet in Heaven and Tuesdays with Morrie, this one will leave you thinking about the choices you’d make… and the ones you wouldn’t.
  • Great book
This book has sat on my wish list for quite a while. I started reading it 2 days ago and will finish today. Great writing. Kept me on my toes. If you want a good, fast read, try this one.
  • Couldn’t put it down!
I couldn’t put this book down! It is my favorite Mitch Albom book since Tuesday’s with Morrie. I loved Alfie and was rooting for him the entire book.
  • What If?
The Prologue opens with “the storm of the year” and “Market Street in the city of Philadelphia”. And here I sit listening to the wind and rain from the Philly suburbs. I’m usually sucked right in to a Mitch Albom book, but this might be the fastest yet!!

As the book title states, our protagonist, Alfie, gets to do things twice. He gets two chances at things. Like a do-over. But ONLY twice. Fail a test? Jump back and ace it. Embarrass yourself in front of kids at school? Jump back and fix that encounter. But, if the second time around is just as awkward, you can’t “twice” yourself out of it again.

I’ll try to avoid spoilers in this review, but it might be difficult. If you are familiar with Mitch Albom’s work, you know that he is an amazing storyteller. He has a true gift of bringing his characters to life, of weaving emotions through every chapter.

The Composition Book - the whole story unfolds while reading through a composition notebook. And it’s such a great written visual aid! Alfie tells us he has decades worth of these books. And, same!! I don’t have the special power, I’m just autistic! ???? But there is just something about that black & white marbled cover, the pages all filled up!!

We are introduced to Lallu, a playful elephant who at one point, gave me (well, Mitch & Lallu) such happy tears!!

And we have Yaya. Every great story should have a bit of a sassy grandmother!! Because they are so important to our lives!! Alfie’s grandmother feared he would do something stupid, and mess it all up. And as Yaya says, “If you keep getting second chances, you won’t learn a damn thing.”

We meet several other characters throughout the book, like Detective LaPorta, who plays an important role. Alfie’s parents, where this all begins. His mom, who tells him the things she loves about him. His dad, who he got to have deep conversations with, even if they were “twice’d”. Wesley, the girls from college, Hollywood, etc. But there’s only one Gianna. Because after all, this is a love story.

There are different kinds of love though. The whole book raises the question of What If? What if you had the chance to go back and do it again? Would you? But there’s a caveat - the person you love won’t love you again. However, there’s another - going back can’t change a death. When it’s your time, it’s your time. So, is it worth it to have the last hug, the last time spent, the last goodbye? Yes, I think so. With any loved one. But, to go back to undo a relationship snafu, if it meant never having had the relationship in their eyes? No, probably not. But I’m not Alfie… or Gianna!!

Favorite quote: I want, and you want, and God does what God wants.

Earlier today, with just about 30 pages remaining in the book, I had the true pleasure of attending Temple Beth Sholom to hear Mitch Albom speak in person, and get my copy of Twice signed. He is just as eloquent speaking as he is writing. It was an absolute delight to be welcomed in, to listen to, and meet him. And to the two beautiful souls we met in line, I hope you enjoyed the symphony this afternoon!!

One thing I should’ve asked Mitch: How long were Alfie and Gianna stuck in the revolving door?
  • I didn't like Alfie and that skewed my review.
I was disappointed in this book. The number one reason, if I am honest, is that I have loved the other books he has written. They were great. I expected better. The number two reason is that I despised Alfie. If Alfie didn't like the way something was going, he would just go back in time and redo it. If Alfie failed a test, he would just go back and take it again. If Alfie said the wrong thing to the girl he liked, he would just undo and redo that moment. I am not sure that putting your life on repeat every time you don’t like something is a way to grow and learn from your mistakes. He was very set on making corrections in his own life but it was never with the thought of whether it would be good for any other person involved. Selfish Alfie. He screwed up his own life and the life of those he supposedly loved without any remorse.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Books for the complementary e-book. This review is my own opinion.
  • Book is pretty good!
This book was very interesting. I’d never read anything on that type of premise before it’s not being able to go back and change the future. It’s about changing your mistakes and sometimes it doesn’t work out so great. The ending is a nice surprise and I enjoyed reading this.
