- Hands-free Voice Control by simply saying, "Hey Roku."
- Locate your misplaced remote by saying "Hey Roku, where's my remote?" or using the free Roku Mobile app.
It's a lot of remote for the money. - Steve W.Backlit Buttons Are a Game ChangerWhen I got this 2nd Generation Voice Remote Pro, I thought I might miss having the headphone jack, which I used every once in a while, but having the backlit keys is so great, I would make that trade any day.
The remote was very easy to link with my ROKU Ultra and my TV for volume and power. The voice function worked just as well as the 1st gen voice remote and still has a mechanical on/off switch for the microphone, for those who are security conscience.
One major difference is they took away the two user programmable buttons (1 & 2) and replaced them with a Guide button (great for those who use the Roku guide or have a terrestrial antenna) and a Quick Launch button - which will either take you to the Roku "What to Watch" channel or you can program it to go to the Roku Sports channel, The Roku channel (there's already a button for that), turn captions on and off (which you can do by voice command), open Voice Command (there's already a button for that), or launch your favorite channel app. I programmed it to launch my most used streaming app. Truth is, everything you can use the Quick Launch button for can be done by saying "Hey Roku" (or pushing the microphone button) and saying whatever you want it to do. Voice control negates the need for user programmable buttons.
Another huge difference is the Gen 2 Voice Pro replaced the clumsy, outdated USB-micro charge port with a modern USB-C port. They even included a 1m (36") USB-A to USB-C charge cable - which charged the 1600mAh battery in what seemed to be about half the time of the former Gen 1 Voice Pro. I didn't time it, so I don't know the exact time.
The remote still has four pre-programmed app buttons, which in past remote versions changed by whichever streaming app was paying Roku the most that week, so you never knew what those buttons would be until you took your remote out of the box. I think Roku has always known most people would like to be able to program those buttons with four apps of their choosing, but if you happen to have subscriptions to those channels, you'll be fine with it. Besides, the beauty of having a voice remote is that you can tell it to open whatever app you want, without the need of programming or pushing any buttons. You can also tell it to turn the power on and off, mute, pause, closed captions, or pretty much anything else the remote buttons will do.
Aside from the loss of 1 user programmable button (which I no longer miss) and the headphone jack (which I might miss), this is by far the best remote Roku has made yet, therefor, I highly, strongly, and most enthusiastically recommend it! - Ruth K. HroncichReplacement for Ultra 2024 Roku box remoteAwesome product. Super easy to set up - even for a senior citizen. Instructions in the box are very tiny, but you can magnify or use your phone to access their url for directions. It was complete within 10 minutes. Rechargeable!!!! Not cheap but in the long run it will be a cost savings (not using batteries all the time). It listens for its name, but you can turn that off if you want. Backlit! Highly recommend!
- Happy CustomerGreat improvement on and already-good productSo, I’ve been a long-time Roku fan, and have multiple older Ultra units that have the remote built like a tank. Unfortunately, one of the tanks finally bit the dust after years of abuse (dropping on floor, tossing onto couch and then bouncing onto floor, and more).
At first I was disappointed to see that I really couldn’t get a like replacement for the tank remotes we have, but decided to give this a go. I was also liking but skeptical of the rechargeable battery, as I’m tired of managing a AA battery depot, but rechargeable kinda locks you in.
After about a month in, I’ve been very happy with the remote:
- Although the remote is light, it has a great “feel” to it, and gives you an impression of a quality component
- The tactile response from the buttons is fantastic. If the button clicks, it means it will work.
- I’ve charged it once since the initial purchase (~2 months ago), and I only did that because it just seemed wrong not to. This is the remote used in our main room, and more-or-less gets used by 3-4 people constantly for 10-12 hours a day. That’s some serious battery life (again, I’m guessing it would have gone for quite a while longer before needing to charge it)
- The backlighting is just that feature you never knew you needed and now wish you’d always had. Yes, this is a first-world issue.
- The voice command feature actually works pretty well, although I turn it off because I don’t need anything else accidentally listening to me. I love the fact that this is a hardware switch and not something easily/accidentally toggled on/off.
- The launch button is a nice touch if you don’t use the pre-programmed remote buttons for which the various streaming companies paid.
- Easily controls the Samsung TVs we have, as expected, and the same tactile response is there for the side volume controls (up/down/mute)
Others in the house are sold on the remote, and actually want me to proactively replace the others in the house (verdict is out on that one!)
