  • What a Wild Ride
When Brad Thor and Ward Larsen, two great thriller writers, team up you can expect a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Cold Zero does just that. A Chinese scientist has developed a prototype that could not only disrupt communication but corrupt essential chips. When CIA agent Kasey Sheridan helps him escape China, one of the scientist’s associates uses the technology to take down their plane over the North Pole. It is a race between the Chinese and the Americans to reach the survivors. A Chinese ice breaker is steaming to the site along with a U.S. submarine. The latest prototype submarine from Russia is also in the area, although they are unaware of the prize that awaits. When the Russians arrive they offer assistance to the survivors while Kasey makes plans to escape with the scientist and the prototype before the Chinese can arrive. Brett Sharpe, the plane’s first officer, offers a distraction so that they can get away, but there is nothing but miles of frozen landscape. Realizing that they will need assistance, he tracks them. In China, Intelligence is doing everything they can to retrieve their scientist and his prototype. Failure is not an option and elite teams are called out to find them. Kasey has been using the prototype to contact her superiors to arrange a rescue, but each time she uses it their location is pinpointed for the Chinese. CIA plans change constantly as the situation changes and a confrontation is inevitable.

Kasey is a seasoned agent. When their plane crashes she steps up to offer assistance and suggestions to Brett, while hiding the prototype and her role in the scientist’s escape. Her biggest mistake is giving her real name to Brett rather than her cover, leading him to question her after checking the passenger manifest. As a former fighter pilot, he was already questioning the cause of the crash so Kasey’s revelations are not a total surprise. They make an incredible team as they battle the elements, polar bears and the Chinese. If you are looking for suspense and constant action, grab a copy of Cold Zero and settle in for a wild ride. I would like to thank NetGalley and Atria Publishing for providing this book.
  • Danger on multiple fronts
Fast-paced thriller full of suspense and danger with three enemies - the Chinese, the Russians, and Mother Nature. At first, it seems that Kasey and Dr Chen Li along with his secret program have escaped from China. Until the plane they are on crashes on ice. Then the race is on to not only survive the elements but to keep Chen and the black briefcase safe.

All of Kasey's training and strategic thinking are needed to deal with the different situations that arise - from shelter right after the crash to dealing with the Chinese and Russians. And being CIA, she understandably knows that she needs to be judicious in what information she reveals to Brett Sharpe, the first officer. But when he catches her using Sky Fire, she needs to at least give him the basics.

As the story progresses, it's almost as if someone is pulling the strings to put up roadblocks every time there is a possible solution to their circumstances. There is an interesting mix of characters, some humor, detailed descriptions of the elements they are dealing with, geopolitics, and out of the box thinking. This story will have you turning the pages to see what will happen next.
  • Fast paced adventure thriller for fans of either author
I am a big fan of Ward Larsen so I was intrigued to read this book coauthored with Brad Thor. This is my first Brad Thor book but it won't be my last. This high octane, spy thriller sets the pace from the first page and had me turning the pages until I had read it straight through. For fans of either author, or just fans of fast paced, adventure thrillers will love this book. I can't wait to delve into Brad Thor's Scott Harvath series. With 25 books in the series it will keep me busy. If you are here because you are a Brad Thor fan you won't want to miss Ward Larsen's Assassin series either. Highly recommended

Thanks to NetGalley and Atria/Emily Bestler Books for an advanced reader copy
  • Action packed
This is a very intense espionage thriller. The action starts from the first page and never lets up. It is definitely a page turner. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
  • Great book by a great team!!
I’ve been a fan of both Brad Thor and Ward Larsen for a while, so seeing that they were teaming up to write a thriller was exciting! When I was fortunate to receive an ARC of COLD ZERO I was more excited. Then I read the book … and it lived up to my expectations. A new heroin and hero join forces to safely transport a valuable commodity and its inventor to the U.S. There are plenty of plots and subplots. Add to that freezing weather at the top of the earth, and you’ve got a fast-paced thriller. Even more exciting … there may be more in the works for these two fantastic authors. Great read, great narrative, and great characters. I highly recommend reading COLD ZERO!
  • A thrilling ride!
This book was so good! The thrilling pace of Brad Thor and technical aviation thriller expertise of Ward Larsen are certainly a force to be reckoned with. Never quite knew where this one was going to end up and I couldn't stop reading to find out what twist or turn was going to happen next. Seeing things along the way from the perspectives of the Russians, Chinese, and our good guys provided a good 360 view of what was going on. I can certainly see this being made into a movie in the future and hope that it's the start to another great series. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 here.

Thanks to Net Galley and Atria/Emily Bestler Books for this ARC. #ColdZero #netgalley
  • exciting thriller
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. Hemispher Airlines Flight 777 is sabotaged and crash lands in the Arctic Circle, but no one knows where. On board are 2 CIA agents transporting a piece of technology and its creator, which are both wanted by Washington, Moscow and Beijing. There are few survivors, so Kasey and Brett Sharpe have to figure out how to get the technology and its creator to safety before the other governments find them.
