- Agape LensWorks great for lighter snow removal needsWorks great for lighter snow removal needs. It was used in the last snowstorm to remove light and fluffy snow at a depth of approximately 10 inches from our porches, walkways, and around our outdoor compressors. It easily threw snow 8 feet away. (For heavily packed/wet snow, we used the regular double handled SnowJoe shovel) The battery dropped by one bar after a 15 minute usage. The SnowJoe is simple to put together, charge, and operate. It operates slightly slower than a regular snowblower but is far more maneuverable for tight spaces and easily manageable as it now sits by our front door for quick cleanups. We are highly satisfied with its performance and ability to make quick work of snow shoveling tasks. Highly recommend!
- VictoriaGets the job done.Great quality product.
Easy and light to use.
Fair price. - Dallas Electronics FanExceeded my expections at this price point. A couple gripes but overall, pretty good...I'll get this out of the way first. There are snow blowers and snow shovels. Snow blowers or truck mounted snow plows will be needed for large area snow removal. A powered snow shovel is for smaller areas where you'd normally use a manual show shovel. Probably obvious for most but maybe worth pointing out.
First time out, this Snow Joe exceeded my expectations. I cleared a ~90sf path from street to propane tanks, a ~100sf path from street to front door steps, ~160sf on a driveway (just enough to back the car out, not the entire driveway) and ~100sf on a neighbors driveway, enough to back her car out. ~35 minutes working somewhat slowly and deliberately. The snow was mostly dry to moist. Afterwards, 2 of 4 bars of charge left. The snow depth varied between about 2 inches to 18 inches but mostly in the 2-6 inch range. It worked well for this. Using it as you would a vacuum cleaner vs a lawn mower seemed to produce the best results. Back and forth but slowly moving forward vs a continuous path forward.
Although it's rated for 5 inches of depth, I found that you can remove deeper snow in layers. Snow throw was at least 15 feet. I tried removing a small area of heavily iced snow 'just because'. Not recommended. You'll risk damaging it for little gain.
The shaft is adjustable for length and has a handle much like a weed trimmer. Two handed operation and very controllable. Unlike manual snow shovels, no heavy lifting, a blessing for older folk. Advertised weight is only 8 pounds. With the battery, I'd guess no more than 10.
You'll have to be mindful about where you use this. Use only where you know there aren't obstacles under the snow, things that might damage the auger. In my case, small above ground granite blocks lining pathways around the yard. Hitting one of those would likely spell doom for the auger especially if the advertised 21,200 RPM speed is correct. The auger is made from plastic. Most if not all snow shovels use plastic augers. This is likely by design to keep the weight and cost down.
Observations:
The battery that ships with this is a 20v, 5A. The charger that ships with this is a simple wall wart rated at 21v, 0.75A. The wall wart gets *very* warm when charging. Almost hot. I've only charged the battery twice and in both cases from 2 bars. Once after unpacking it and the 2nd time after the initial use. I'd estimate that it took 4-5 hours to fully charge the battery from 2 bars. I suspect that Snow Joe shipped it with an inexpensive wall wart to trim cost. Snow Joe sells optional charging docks for their 24v batteries. It'd be nice if they offered a 20v fast charger dock for their 20v batteries.
The battery's charging port location isn't obvious. Nothing that looks obviously like a port. Further, I don't know what the water resistance is for the battery so after using this outside, I'd let it dry for at least an hour inside before plugging it in to charge.
The lower grip on the shaft has a knob on one side and a tiny wing nut on the other. Weird design choice. You won't often have to use the wingnut but compared to more sophisticated design from companies like EGO, kind of a janky engineering choice.
The vane direction control knob is extremely tight and difficult to use. So much so that I just left it in the forward position.
How long will it last? Unknown. Unlike my EGO cordless tools which have proven to be almost indestructible, meticulously engineered, long lasting and with batteries that last for years, the Snow Joe doesn't have the same vibe. That said, Snow Joe gear is significantly less expensive than EGO products.
Too early to talk about durability and service life but first time out, very impressive performance. I went into this with skepticism but came out a happy customer. I'll update if anything significant happens.
Side note: if you use Rufus (Amazon's AI), it initially pointed me to Snow Joe's 24v docking stations in spite of specifically asking if there was a dock for Snow Joe's 20v batteries. I've used Rufus a number of times and the number of incorrect or misleading answers is disturbing. Rufus is perhaps the lowest IQ AI in existence. Poor Rufus is a Doofus. - Amazon CustomerWas sent a faulty productI regret purchasing this piece of garbage. I used it for barely 5 minutes and it stopped working. I fully charged so that was not the issue. It started making wierd noises. I checked to see what could be the reason but there was nothing other than something that sounded loose in the motor which I can't access. I returned the item but the seller is a rip off. I received a message saying due to the condition of the item and like I said barely used 5 minutes, I was charged a restocking fee of 50%. There was nothing on their return policy that stated a restocking fee let alone 50%. I paid $198 for a faulty piece of garbage and I am being held responsible. Stay away from this seller.
- GOut with the old, in with the new!A must have for winters. I did my entire deck and part of my driveway and got plenty of battery life. Setting up is super easy and charging as well. Did great with 6 inches of snow, soft fluffy and dry snow. Can’t speak on with wet snow yet. I keep it in a bucket once I’m done for the water to melt off into. Overall an awesome buy. Just wish the snow shovel was compatible with other batteries so you are not dependent on one particular brand and availability.
- Linda SheehanEasy to use75 y/o female. No problem putting it together. It's a bit heavy but manageable. The recent storm dumped several feet of snow. My driveway was plowed but he doesn't shovel so each time he came I took the "shovel" out to clear the 18inches left against the garage door. Later I tackled the backyard and made a path through 20 inches of snow. Worked like a charm. I suspect it wouldn't do the job on hard packed snow but under normal conditions it worked great. My body gave out before the battery so I can't speak to the running time. I just recharged the battery while my body recharged and kept at it.
- CMPDNo backup battery available. The snow shovel itself works well. It took care of snow that was a few inches high. It lasted about a half hour. The problem is trying to buy a second battery. I called customer service and they said they didn't know when and if they would have batteries. It takes six hours to recharge. Trying to do the walkways and driveway takes more than a half hour. We may need to return it if we can't buy another battery. Thus, the 3 stars.
- CariadGame changer! This wonderful cordless snow shovel is absolutely perfect for my needs. We live in a townhouse condo with snowremoval. BUT, we have to shovel out of our outdoor parking space after the plow blocks us in. This did a great job of that. We had 2 storms with about 8" then 4" after the second storm. I had fun clearing my sidewalk and 4 of our neighbors before the snow removal service came.
It was a lot stronger than I thought it would be. I got about 30 to 45 minutes of power before recharging which was fine.
I am ordering a 2nd backup battery, which I don't think I'll need to much. But, New Englad winters are getting stronger. So better safe than sorry.
